HUB LOCKS

Ek het nou n vraag of drie .....vier

(1)Is daar n auto hub lock op die mark vir n Hilux ?
(2)en as daar is het iemand dit al opgesit ?
(3)en hoe werk dit ?
(4)Of is dit maar beter om by die manual hub locks te bly ?

A few years back, I had a friend who had these auto hubs on his Isuzu, he had more problems with them than the actual use he got from this vehicle, something about the springs inside breaking, maybe the design has been improved upon since then, however depending once again where you will be using your vehicle, you might have to consider buying an extra auto hub that you can carry in your vehicle if you venture off into Lesotho or one of the African states, in case you have a failure, because you will battle to find spares for it if you are in The Lullies.

And you will have to watch out if you fit larger tyres and additional lockers to your vehicle, the reason been these autohubs might not be able to take the additional torque.

While on the topic can anyone please tell me:

1. Is it damaging to a select 4wd to drive in lowrange with hubs free?
2. How damaging is it really to turn a corner on a steep tar road while in low 4 with hubs locked?

I have a situation at work where we have to drive to the top of Mariepskop with a loaded 3000D Hilux. The vehicle can not make it in high range as it starts smelling of clutch and runs out of power. We are currently driving up in Low4, but I know I should not really do this on tar.......any ideas? :roll:

Driving in 4L with the hubs free can not damage anything. If you ever stripped and serviced a hub and see how it works you will see why.

So use it 4L in 2wd if you need to, but do not lock the hubs on sealed surfaces as the difference in rotational speed, due to steering or different tyre wear between front and rear, can cause wind up in the transfer case and could damage its components.

2wd low range will work but as benhur says do not lock the hubs.
