Re: BlumTRD SAS
David,

As ek so iets doen sal ek n 4x4 koop....
Goeie werk

Nice job, David. Looks really awsome!!!
It looks like you omitted to fit the stabilizer arm between the top of the diff and the body?? It will twist the axle on the springs a little without it. Has anyone left this off before and what were the findings off-road?

The torque rod you mean. I believe they reckon your axle wrap will stuff up the blades without it :? :?

Re: BlumTRD SAS ( Solid Axle Swop )
Ok, torque rod then .... but that's why I asked, because I can imagine that it would stress the springs. Adittionally I can forsee the driveshaft angle being whipped back and fort as the axle wraps. This should also come into play while braking and it affects the castor angle if it wraps .... not a good combination if you're braking hard for a child in the road, I think.

Re: BlumTRD SAS ( Solid Axle Swop )
So sal maar bietjie kyk daarna

Ditto! .... David it would seem that as you have a crossover type steering it's not neccesary anymore. However axle wrap and wheel hop may still be an issue. Keep it in mind. Still a stirling job you did thereOK that makes sense, you are never too old to learn

Re: BlumTRD SAS ( Solid Axle Swop )
Something else interesting about steering: if one turns, the innner front wheel must turn more than the outer one (smaller radius circle), How is this achieved?

they turn exactly the same, it's just that the outside wheel travels a greater distance; hence the steering difficulties when lockers are engagedcprinsloo wrote:Something else interesting about steering: if one turns, the innner front wheel must turn more than the outer one (smaller radius circle), How is this achieved?

Re: BlumTRD SAS ( Solid Axle Swop )
Not true!.... They do on fact turn on their own individual radii, otherwise there would be some serious scrubbing and tyre wear when turning. The inner wheel, on a turn will have a tighter (smaller) radius than the outer one. It's refferred to as tow in / tow out on turns when this angle is out. It is usually not adjustable and is set in the design of the steering arms. It is achieved by the angle (off from 90º) that is formed between the line of the axle and the line between the stub axle pivot and end of the steering arm. This angle is calculated as a co-efficient between the wheel base length (distance between front and back axles) and the width of the front axle (distance between the pivot points). If the steering arm or axle are bent, this setting goes for a Burton.they turn exactly the same, it's just that ....
This part is true of course, since the outer wheel in a turn has a greater radius.the outside wheel travels a greater distance; hence the steering difficulties when lockers are engaged

David, I don't think you will have any issues with bump steer .... not with your cross over steering. If you had fitted the old SFA steering box and pitman arm (push pull steering), then there would be an issue. Your only problems may arrise from axle wrap, like :
* Wheel hop (only while drive to the front wheels is engaged)
* Castor angle ( sometimes reffered to as kingpin inclination) will tighten up (the rake will be reduced) under braking and affect the steering dynamic of the vehicle at that moment.
