Bakkie Box&Cover

Post by Arri »

Greetings

I am in the market for a good bakkie box/boot that's lockable; where I can store some stuff and shopping.
I have came accross these recently : Utiboot http://www.utiboot.co.za/product.htm
U-Boxhttp://www.amax.co.za/
Webber box [http://www.webberbakkiebox.co.za/
Alpine box http://www.alpinecases.co.za/html/bakkie.html
BAKKIE BOOT"/UTILITY BOX http://www.canopyking.com/acessories_ht ... _boxes.htm
Pioneer plastics Bakkie Box http://www.pioneerplastics.co.za/
Max Box http://www.rvaccessories.co.za/

Does anybody have any experience in some of these product (good or bad)?

I also want to fit a cover to my bak, not a canopy
There are two popular ones the Armadillo http://www.armadilloconcepts.co.za/
Which is quite expensive and they need to modify my rollbar
and the Smart cover, just as expensive http://www.smartcover.co.za/home.htm

Any experience on any of them?
The fance stuff like the carryboy and rigidek does not do single cabs and rigiodaek does not make Toyota covers as yet?

So Arno - what did you end up going with?

I'm going through a similar exercise for my '01 2.7 S/C Hilux
I like the look of no canopy as well as the benefits of riding without one (fuel efficiency, unobstructed sight)
I regularly go dirtbiking and it's nice to know that in an emergency my wife can take the bakkie and fetch me and my bike in emergencies. For this to be possible I need an accessible loadbay so canopy is not practical.

The Armadillo and Securi-lid both makes sense but I don't like the fact that the roll-bars either have to be modified (which adds to the cost and also impact function), or be removed completely..
The Smart Cover is really interesting as in a way it acts as a 'boot' which means that you are not exposing the content of the load area completely to the elements when opening. However, I cannot figure out whether it'll be as practical as the roll-covers when needing to load the bike?
