Car losing fire when hitting bumps

Hi all

Just to add here, my car isn't stalling after pull aways, it loses power (fire) when hitting bumps. Car still seems in gear, seeing that the gears are slowing the car down. Even when stepping on the gas nothing happens, until I hit another bump and it takes again. Some times I have to go to a halt next to the road to restart the car. It then pulls away fine.

This seems like a bigger problem than the below mentioned clutch...maybe related though...

First of all, this is not a problem associated with my toyota. But, I suppose it could be a common problem.

When driving everything is fine, until pressing the clutch. When the clutch is pressed down there is a whining noise.

Could this be due to the clutch being worn? The clutch cable perhaps?
Also, my car started stalling some times after a pull away.

Any advice?

Thanks

Thrust bearing perhaps?

I agree ... sounds like the clutch release bearing ..... I very much doubt that the stalling issue is related .... especially if it happens once you have already pulled away.

Thanks guys

Is it easy to check the clutch release bearing?

No! Gearbox needs to be removed, to access clutch and thrust bearing!

Just don't use the clutch!

Ok Mr Quick B jumped me on this one.......

I'm not 100% sure but I suppose you will have to split the gearbox from engine to check it? Might aswell do a complete clutch replacement while your at it?

No, not really ... It's something you can quite easily do yourself (with a bit of help to handle the weight of the gearbox). We could talk you through it without too much hassle.

Hi all

Thanks for the advice. I put in additional notes of my problem in the first post. It might still be clutch related, but I don't know.

Any advice?

Thanks

The whining noise that you hear only when depressing the clutch is definitely the release bearing. The other problem sounds like a poor electrical connection of sorts that loses connectivity when you hit a bump and then sometimes restored after another jolt .... what vehicle is it? Carb or fuel injection?

It's fuel injection.

I checked all the wiring accessible to me, but alas, no loose wires.

Think I should take it in to the garage.

Sounds very much like an electrical problem. Had a similar experience, every time I hit a 'good' bump the engine momentarily died. Finally traced the fault to a connector that was not properly clipped in - see photo. Tracing an intermittent electrical fault can be a BIG problem.
