I have just a the conversion, and according to what I thought was enough advise, seemed liked a good choice. Now I am experiencing drive train problems. Seems like I just fried my first gearbox and I have not even done a trail yet! It was just used to travel between home and work. Thys now I need some help. I am stuck with the engine, what type of gearbox would be the right conversion to start with? I got some advice on the 2.8 or 3.0 Cressida/Camry gearboxes. Not sure if it can be done. Advise?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg-Warne ... ansmission" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; now i know there available in south africa,i sourced one in durban last year.As for the land cruiser inners i meant drive shafts and diffs. The JT 3000 Hilux which came factory fitted with a 3000l ford engine had a borg warner box.

how sure are you that the JT 3000 hilux came from the factory fitted with the 3l Ford motor in it!!

was that the Toyota factory??? or some other conversion house, like JT or Alpine or . . . . .

me dont wish to start something, however dout that Toyota would of sold such a model!! could be surprisingly wrong!!
just wondering!!

I briefly spoke to Hoppy this afternoon and he reckons the quick fix is to use a KZTE box, not the Cressida box (still not strong enough) or the T5 box, (too foreign and too many adapters and stuff). He's unfortunately away for the weekend, but I did point him in the direction of this thread, and he said he would come and give you guys more details soon.

Can someone please explain to me how ratios work. I know it's important but have no idea how it works or is suppose to work  I have started the hunt for the T5 box. What would, for example, the impact be w.r.t. ratios if i would stick in the T5 with the current diff? :?

Get your self a R151(KZTE) there are a few floating around for about R5500 - R7500. The 7mgte came with a R154 from the factory the only difference is input shaft is shorter and 1st and 5th is shorter for off road and loading applications. Hope this helps

The R154 box is only for 4x2 vehicle's (came in the supra) and the R151F is the 4x4 box. So you say the R151F is the one used in the KZ :?: There was another application, I think it was the R152F that came out for the V6 version.

Great! Thanks for the advice. I will shop around for the R152F. Hoppy, hope you can add this, at this point I am feeling like selling the whole thing  But I suppose that is how it goes with these type of conversions.

  , yes and your correct it is the R150F on the V6 model, but do we get the R150F in SA :?: and how do you identify it, any specials to look for to know what you are looking at :?:

The R150F was mainly used on 3vz and 5vz engines and i am struggling to find a local vehicle that had that engine with a manual box. I'm sure the 4.0 hilux has a R box but i cant identify witch one but all diesels have the R151F. The only way to identify them is the physical differences. The body of the box is as fat as the R154 and has a shorter input shaft. The difference between R150F and R151F is the gears inside. You probably have to pull the gearbox apart to see witch one it is.
R150F Ratio:
First Gear: 3.830:1
Second Gear: 2.062:1
Third Gear: 1.436:1
Fourth Gear: 1.00:1
Fifth Gear: 0.838:1

R151F Ratio:
First Gear: 4.313:1
Second Gear: 2.330:1
Third Gear: 1.436:1
Fourth Gear: 1.00:1
Fifth Gear: 0.838:1
