Clamp on or threaded? Threaded is far better, and if threaded, how deep (far back) is the thread on the muzzle?
Pics?

If you're not using sub-sonic ammo, you're only damping the gas 'pop' .... will certainly be a lot quieter from your position, but won't make too much difference at the point of target. Sub-sonic loads will achieve the best results by far but range and accuracy become seriously limited. Either way silencers are very useful in keeping the stress levels down of the surrounding game and livestock. They are becoming more and more popular with hunters since they have been legalised a few years back. Do you still need a permit?

MD, you can have a reflex type made which will bring down a .30-06 to below .22 levels (measured with a dB meter) for less than that. However not anybody can make a reflex silencer.

Frikkie Ferreira built my .338 Winshester Magnum and I have seen a whole lot of other rifles that he has built and some that whas restored.
He also builds Rifle Silensers for all calibers. To cut the thread and fit silenser is R1500.

Whilst hunting predators at night with lights is undeniably a lot of fun, it is unlikely to reduce your livestock losses. Ou jaks is a lot cleverer than you are, and predator vacuums are quickly filled, especially when they're having 2 litters a year.
If it makes you feel better, by all means go ahead though.
