Q: Do we have to apply to ICASA for licence renewal at the end of the year or do they send us a reminder application?

They sent out reminders last year Mark. But I have not received anything yet for this year. Good thing you mentioned it I would have forgotten about it..

Just a reminder that all current ORRA 29MHz and VHF Club Licences expire this month (Dec), payment for 2011 Licence renewals must be made by 31st Dec 2010.

Ek het vir Rina gekontak blykbaar gaan die huidige lisensies nie 31 Dec 2010 verval nie maar eers 28 Feb 2011. Hulle is besig om briewe uit te stuur na al die lede binne die volgende twee weke an die wat epos adresse het kan dit so ontvang.

Die kostes is nog nie bepaal deur ICASA vir die nuwe lisensies nie :roll:

Yep, ICASA has changed their financial year-end. I hope the fees are not going to change to what they were proposing ealrlier this year :shocked:

OK so I am new to this VHF thing, looking into buying a unit pretty soon though.

If I need a new license for 2011 whom do I communicate with? understand that we (hilux4x4) now use the ORRA channels? Has the club also got a seperate channel like some of the other? (LCCSA)

Henk, firstly you need to be a member to apply for a licence via ORRA

Yes the Club has x2 ORRA frequencies and x2 Hilux channels

Guys, ICASA has changed its Financial year-end from December until March of the following year. Therefore, no accounts for Radio Communications Licences have yet been sent out, but they will be posted early in the new Year.

This informative from ORRA:

To ALL RADIO OFFICERS/CLUB CHAIRMAN

We are in the process to change the frequencies closer to one another. We also applied for a third frequency, but we are still awaiting reply from ICASA.

ICASA will be changing their financial year from end of December to end of March. ORRA will cover the 3 months interim period for licensing.

There after we will invoice. We expect that new invoices will go out February/March 2011.

Received the new lisence invoices for the place I work for this week. It seems that the lisenses are about 25% of previous. If I didn't miss something miracles still happens. Did I miss something? Anybody else have feedback?

We (Repcom) have not yet received ours. 25% of normal annual fees would indicate that you are being invoiced only until end March, following which the new annual licence fees will follow later, in accordance with ICASA's new financial year end.

ORRA is carrying the can for the first quarter of this year. ICASA has sent renewal notices out but these are only valid from Jan to March 2011. Thereafter, the new ICASA accounts for April to March 2012 will be posted and ORRA will, in turn, invoice their members accordingly.

Don't feel left out, ICASA will not forget you! :)

Mark, as far as the ORRA licences go, they have not yet been sent for this year. If you have an ICASA licence, you should have received an account in January already.

Hey guys... got my notifications (my own and the clubs) last night. They are due at the end of April.

New fees for the year are as follows:
Annual Subscription (per call sign): R25
29MHz License per radio : R40
VHF Licence per radio : R85

Their banking details has also changed:

AAWDC (Association of All Wheel Drive Clubs)
ABSA Bank
Branch Code: 632 005
Account number: 404 706 6974
Please use: (SURNAME & INITIALS & CALL SIGN) as your reference (Ex Kruger CJ B15)

As ORRA services the whole country, it is vital that the above information reflects correctly on our bank statements, please include your initials. No other details please – no club name etc, just what is given above.

Dalton from ICASA phoned me today, they apparently want to courier our company licence accounts to us by hand. A nice thick, fat pile. The first person who correctly guesses what the total amount is, wins the right to pay it on our behalf.

Cassie, more like twenty times that amount.... I hope! But if they have increased their licence fees, I am running away to that lovely tropical island I discovered in the middle of nowhere where everything is free.... ;)

Oh, they will pay the courier fee, but normally people only send things per hand courier when the item concerned is worth lots to them.

Do you think I should put the accounts on raffle here? Winner pays all?

ICASA sure knows how to put a smile on your face when you're feeling low...

The fees are for our Repeaters... I repeat... Repeaters... I repeat... Repeaters.

Strange thing is I have tried - unsuccessfully - to talk to someone there for the past six months. Either the phone is not answered orit goes to voice mailbox, so Dalton and I had a good chat and he was actually most helpful in the long run.

But then, I am one of his better customers!

Shall we start the raffle?
