My Bakkie drawer with ammo crates and fridge/water slider
So tomorrow after the Boks trashed Fiji, I will quickly build my drawer system.
Some materials were purchased this afternoon.......
2 lenghts of 19mm sq tubing
2 lenghts of 25mm angle iron
12 x 20mm roller bearings
12 hex butt bolts with nuts and washers
1 case of Amstels
I have...
9 army ammo crates with lids
primer and enamel black paint
tools and welding / grinding consumables
fridge slide that I build previously
I still need to buy...
plywood for the top cover board
carpet and glue for the top cover board
some more beer
Cost so far....
Steel : R260
Bearings : R120
Bolts and nuts : R16
Beer : R 145
Cost still to incurr...
Plywood : +- R 200
Carpet : +- R 100
Glue for carpet : +- R 30
So I reckon I will complete this project for below R800.......excluding beer!........not to shabby...
The plan....
Watch the ruggas and drink some beer.
Make a single drawer frame from the angle iron to fit all 9 ammo crates.
Drink some beer...
Make a frame from the 19mm sq tubing to house the drawer frame.
Drink some beer....
Mount the bearings on the tubing frame.
Paints theisss wholesss thingsss
Drinksss shome beerssss...hik...hik....
Slide thesesse drawress froame into angels iron frame.......CAPISH ?????
End of weekend labour
Next weekend.....purchase plywood and carpet and comlpete !
This sounds easy.....or does it.....
Will post some progress pics tomorrow !!!!!

Lyk goed, my idee is ook om bearings te gebruik, baie goedkoper as die rails.

Re: My Bakkie drawer with ammo crates and fridge/water slide
Ja.....daai rails is belaglik duur. Ek het R10 per bearing betaal. Ek gebruik 12. Boute en moere was R16. Angle iron vir daai lengte sal jou so +- R20 kos..

Managed to finish my little project last Saturday. The total cost amounted to R1100. The system works lekka. Wil test it the weekend of October during a nice trip to the Kruger!

Is that 5mm angle iron youre using Simon? Is the geniune army ammo crates difficult to get hold of? Its damm easy smugling army weapons and ammo ...so I presume the ammo crates wont be any of a problem.

Wou die maks. spasie gebruik anders moes ek die kratte se layout verander en dan 'n kas om die yskas bou om die spasie bo yskas te gebruik.

It is still loose and I will test it when loaded to see if this will be a problem. I like it loose because I can easily remove it when I need the bin empty.RaymondH wrote:Very nice!!!! what's the total KG's op the packing system? how did you manage to fasten it to the bakkie??
It actualy fits snugly between the wheel arches. The lid closes tightly against it to keep it from moving around.
