Air Vent for Canopy
I was looking for an air vent I can put on my canopy which can blow air into the canopy in order to put the canopy under positive pressure so that dust cannot come in.
I saw this nice air vent on Mark's van and decided to try it on mine. Mark has it at the rear, he opens the front window of the canopy to blow air in. My canopy do not have a window in front so I installed the air vent on the left hand side door.
Have not tested it yet but I cannot see why it wont work
I just cut a 86mm hole (the vent is 76 but I only had a 86mm hole saw. A 76mm hole would be the correct size) and then secured it with Sicaflex.

Re: Air Vent for Canopy

Re: Air Vent for Canopy
I can see that if I travel on long dirt roads with lots of traffic that you do get dust via the air vents from oncoming traffic
So in my opinion option 1 should be to get it as dust proof as possible with seal rubbers at the tail gate and other openings and the air vent should only be the last bit of extra pre-caution

Re: Air Vent for Canopy
Digby, if I have to choose I would spend my time sealing the tail gate and the canopy.
On our last trip there was a navy blue bag close to the air vent and after a stretch of busy gravel road I saw that there was a round area on the bag with dust on which shows me that you do get dust from oncoming traffic, even though the air vent is installed on the left. It was not much, but it was there.
I guess one have to decide where you will get the most dust from, from the tailgate or the little bit from oncoming traffic.
Your biggest culprit with dust in the canopy is the tail gate. If can manage to seal that properly you might not need the airvent or use it only for back-up
As far as water is concerned, the work well. They do not seal 100% but normal rain wont get in. If you wash the vehicle and spray water directly on it, a little bit will get it but not much.

Pieter, to minimize the dust entering the pressure vent on my canopy I cut piece of steel mesh and fitted filter cloth between the vent and mesh with two screws and wingnuts so I can remove to clean. Got the filter cloth from the airconditioning guys. Will try to post a picture sometime, but my iPad isn't too friendly when it comes to posting pictures.
