My New Style Alu Canopy from GOMAD

Post by ThysdJ »

It's been a long time coming, since November last year when I decided to buy a D4D Hilux, that GOMAD will be building me a spunky "never seen before" aluminium canopy. Well, the D4D arrived in January, and Ciske and I sat down to work out exactly what it is I need and how the canopy should look.

My requirements were:
- "No checker plate". I wanted it to be made with smooth plate on the sides, and checkerplate on the top.
- A roofrack to keep stuff from falling off the top of the canopy.
- Sliding window in the front to allow airflow into the canopy to keep dust out.
- Window on the rear door, so I can see which car it is I am about to reverse over.
- Removable side doors, as well as a replacement set with sliding windows. The pooch rides in the back, and smaaks blaffing at the postmen on their bicycles.
- Anodize the doors, and other flat plates.
- Spray/powdercoat the frame.

Since we started making lists, and Ciske drew up the drawings, we made vas a suitable financial agreement, which i will not disclose, and he set off ordering the materials. In the mean time, a new canopy surgeon with some funky ideas, called Gerhard, took up office at GOMAD, and the two of them sat around a table during the week and designed a new way of dealing with round corners on the back of Vigo bakkies. In involved much bending and cutting but they managed to come up with a very funky solution. This I can also not disclose at this time, as the patents are pending.

Anyway, I am SO excited, because when I dropped by at GOMAD yesterday, my canopy frame was complete, ready for spray painting. Serial Nr GM00001. The side plates should be cut by now and will be sent off for anodising later today. Unfortunately the whole design is still secret, but if you watch this space, all will be revealed by next Friday.

This will blow your socks off!!!

This sounds very interesting. I don't like the checkeredplate look at all and also have dogs that wants to see where they are going!

Patience is a virtue,
Virtue is a grace,
Grace is an acceptable period of postponement for the posting of a full report including pics and 1 week is TOO LONG!
That amounts to deliberately keeping secrets from your good friends / colleges / brothers in arms here on the forum!! :punch:

I believe there is a lot of progress on my canopy. Haven't been there lately but will pop in this afternoon...

I do have a picture or 2 of the frame and roofrack (spy papparazzi pictures) but I believe I will be making myself guilty of copyright infringements and breach of contract and all manner of unsavoury acts. So best we all be patient until Ciske gives the go-ahead.. :silent: :silent: :silent:

So glad you like the changes.... took me ages to choose the design on that lacy number... it was a toss up between them and the material ones with fruit scattered on them, in pink of course.... But really appreciate the positive feedback... :dance1: :dance1: :dance1:

Geduld Kerels!!
Patience Boyfriends!!

It are going the wait worth be, believes me!!

Alu Cab? R&D? Get ready to loose market share!!!! :boss: :boss: :boss:

Listen you guys must stop talking nonsense I just had a phone call from interior decorator wanting me to make silky stuff for them :cooldude:

Anyway for those who are waiting on the final product must hang on as we have made some more changes to the finishing of the canopy. This will surely be a one of a kind until someone sees it and wants the same. All I can say is BLACK WHITE and damm stunning ! Oja flat flat flat and more flat.

Get your cheq books ready guys you will love this one !!!!
