Re: Clutch Replacement
Welcome Willie. Hope you enjoy it here.
The kit you buy from the dealers is a Luk-Repco kit. Alternatively you can also buy a brand called Sachs.

Re: Clutch Replacement
Hi Willie,
a Friend of mine took his clutch out of his 3.0 d4d and took the plate to a gearbox specialist to put new linings on and used the same pressure plate. Cost him R150 and it is in for a year now without problems.

Re: Clutch Replacement
Re-lining was a popular alternative, but I would rather replace with a Sachs or Luk Repco kit from Midas / Autozone .... same thing that you would get from the dealers (they just re-package it), at a fraction of the cost. If you re-line, you would have to get a release bearing separately anyway, whereas it's included in the kit. It's not always necessary to replace the pressure plate .... if it's not burnt (discolouration) or cracked (hairline spider cracks) or got grooves worn into it, it should be OK to last as long as a new clutch plate. While it's out, you should also examine the fly-wheel surface for the same. It's also not necessary to replace the spigot bearing ( bush bearing in the centre of the fly-wheel) every time either, but they're not expensive, so it's probably recommended for peace of mind.
Also look for oil leaks / sweating at the back of the motor ... if the crank seal is leaking, better to replace at the same time while the box is out. Same applies to the seals on the gear box spline shaft (input) and the rear output shaft seal .... these rarely ever leak, but check them anyway.

Re: Clutch Replacement
I use a heavy duty Sachs clutch on most replacements, the whole job works out to about R3200
