03 KZTE Aircon Compressor Outer 'wheel clutch' coming loose

Post by Freeman »

I am having a challenge with my aircon compressor outer wheel. It is secured with a 16 x 6mm bolt which secures it onto a splined shaft. This bolt seems to wear itself loose and the wheel then drops off into the engine compartment.
I have found that if I tighten the wheel onto the compressor, the aircon clutch remains engaged and thus the air con is always on.

I have fitted a spacer washer between the wheel and compressor and now it will engage only on demand. But it has come loose again since. Now I am trying locktight on the bolt.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

Not a similar problem, but was going to suggest Lock-tight... Hope it stays!

Hello Philip,

Sorry I'm replying so late but I was looking for some info on my KZ's aircon pump and came across your thread...

The (inner)bearing on my truck's aircon pump needs to be replaced and I was wondering if you perhaps know somebody reliable(besides a dealer obviously) who does these kind of things?
I see you reside in Vereeniging where I often visit the family, so it will be possible to take the truck there, unless you're also aware of somebody in the Jo'burg area?

Best Regards
Johan

Johan, appologies for being so tardy with my posts, I did not recieve a notification and need to fix my settings.
If you have any issues with your Hilux and are spending time in the Vaal. Contact Kennie (Ex Toyota Mech) oh eight three, three five six, one ohsix oh.

He runs a small workshop in the next block to Vaal Toyota and is trustworthy and reasonable. He has contacts for all Hilux related jobs.

Take care
