Hi from Australia
G'day to everyone. My name is Taz, and just like the cartoon tassie devil of the same name, I I down under mainland Australia in the beautiful island of Tasmania.
I have just bought a 1992 dual cab 2.8D hilux, and am looking forward to getting to know the beastie better . Impressed with it so far even though it still requires a bit of work before I take it for any real testing. (Centre bearing and steering knuckle are the main jobs to be done, just waiting for the parts )
Quick question... the compliance plate is difficult to read, but the engine type says 3L, I am trying to find out the model type (LN106???) just in case I need things like glow plugs, etc. How can I make sure I have the right number?
Look forward to getting to know the folks around here

Welcome Taz,
Try and search for "engine codes", on the search window on this page. It will go through all the threads, I do know there is a thread on this topic, but for the life of me cant remember where it is. Getting spares in Tasmania must be a bit of a mission ??

Welcome Taz!
The 3L is indeed the 2.8 diesel motor.
Have a look here, the VIN should tell you quite a lot about your vehicle.

Re: Hi from Australia
Thanks for the welcomes and the replies, much appreciated
Parts are not very difficult to come by mushroom, even though my small town is about 200km from the nearest major centre. We have a good wrecker who usually ships overnight and a couple of spares stores who will do the same.
Best part is that being the most remote populated area in the state makes for lots of great 4WD tracks
EDIT:

EDIT:
Hmmm the first three digits tell me that it is a passenger car made by Toyota in Japan... the fourth digit is supposed to be a letter for the engine type, but it is a "3" which is not listed. The fifth digit tells me it is a Echo or Yaris (strangest looking one of those ever seen )Mud Dog wrote:Welcome Taz!

Re: Hi from Australia
Welcome Taz. May be you can help. I got Hilux, suppose the same shape of yours, but import here, and find it hard to get a bonnet, right fender and front windscreen, also left and right front indicators. Any help where to get these parts ?

@doppies I know that one wrecker here in Tasmania has one the same and there are a couple of Hilux wreckers on the mainland, but not sure if they would ship to your location, I could make some enquiries for you if you wish????

Re: Hi from Australia
Will have to get some pics once I have him on the road and can get out to a nice location (should have the parts by next week).
Tazmania is 40% wilderness, and the west coast region (where I live) is not very populated (biggest town just over 2,000 population, my town has around 12 people), mostly rugged ranges and rainforests.

You still welcom on the forum which has more members than your town...
Just because it says "4WD" doesn't make it an off-road vehicle.
