This December we did not do the long drive ....

Instead we stayed at home and took a couple of day drives to visit friends and family and to take in the beauty of the fairest Cape. :)

Here are some of the pics I took over the last two weeks -

Wow... Thanks Chris, almost missed the post... Did U use a ND filter on that one with the slow speed wave, or do U have a Lee big stopper?

So like Chris, decided to hit some new seaside stops and spent some time at Arniston and Struisbaai the weekend. Started to get seriously worried that Suz would take up on her threat of taking the 5D off me if I did'nt hurry up and use it (heehee), so when Hoppy and Suz invited me to join them at Struisbaai, I did...

We took a drive to Waenhuiskraans hoping to get into the cave at low tide but somehow we either got the tides wrong, or it takes a lot more dedication to wade through the waves with camera held high, to reach it... was'nt going to risk that on my first outing with the 5D. Not sure if you can see the rather small figures of Hoppy and Werner attempting to reach the cave... Mmmmm, nope was'nt going there...

so settled for some landscapes at a time of the day I would not normally shoot landscapes...

Sea was an amazing colour... I did find some vignetting on the full frame on the edges when using the 24-105.... at 24...

Okay so back to Struisbaai, after realising the cave was'nt going to happen, and at a better time of the day

then a variation without the colour (oops)

and then the big test for me was the low light shot which I was keen to see.. Took this shot at 8.10pm on 100 ISO at f22 with shutter speed at 2.5s on meter then +1 -1 and HDR, on a tripod, and no remote switch, that was in the camera bag in the boot of my car...

Hey Chris, you never said if you used a ND filter of Big stopper on that ocean one with the slow shutter speed.

Also want to know if you going to join us on an outing or two if we have photographic outings this year?... Have some great ideas to get all the photo fundi's and offroad crowd together for a photo offroad day/weekend or 3.. There are quite a few keen offroad photographers in the WC.

Val I will definately try my best to attend the photographic outings !! :) :)

I only used a filter on the "Gordons Bay" shot (did not have all my equipment with me on the other outing - left the bag at home ...)

Cool, have got some fun ideas for the photography/overlanding outings... like setting us some challenges and assignments...

Great idea including a silhouette....  This may sound like a silly question, but I was going to say, great sunset, but just realised you were on the east coast of Africa, so is that sunrise or sunset...

Was going to comment that I am always tempted to photograph a sunset and suddenly realised it was the opposite coast to where I normally get to.. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:
