Looking for a dog crate, anyone?

In two weeks time will be bringing home a six week old Labrador puppy, does anyone have a crate for his size either taking up space that they wanna sell or give away?

A normal milk crate with a towel inside works fine, but only for a few weeks, they grow like hell

Take a soft toy (small teddy or something) or even a small blanket to him now, so that it can absorb his mum's smell. It reduces the "seperation" trauma of the first couple of nights in a new home away from his mum and siblings....

Any crate with some bedding will do, even a cardboard box...

Thys this is a brilliant idea to take a blanket to the dog, I will keep it in mind the next time arround.

When Tammy was a puppy, she just loved her cardboard box with an old blanket. She slept soundly the whole night without any yapping or whining. Place the box on its side with the opening facing the front so that the pup can enter and exit at will.

Thumelo, this is what Tammy looked like the very night when we first got her, 6 weeks old. Very unsure of herself then. We let her have her own 'blanket in a box' for another three weeks or so, by which time she was potty-trained as well. All in, a brilliant dog! She is now turning five next month and like her dad, has signs of grey showing. The grey hair puzzles me, as, like her dad, she is far too young to be displaying grey hair. I think it is caused by something the moon-is-e-pal-ity here puts in the drinking water.

Haven't taken a pic of her with her grey hair yet, she barely sits still long enough, but you can see signs of it starting already in the pic below

For that first couple of nights a box with opening on one side will do. Give him a blanket also.
Another thing that also calms them is an old shoe or trainer from whoever the dog has bonded with. The smell also helps to make them settle.

Picked up young man last night, hmmm gorgeous boy! Along the way we would stop and let him walk in the grass next to the highway, and to bond a bit. From Alberton to Little Falls took over an hour, no traffic. At first a little anxious but tried to make him as comfy as possible. Wouldn't eat puppy pellets though, but would drink water. Slept next to me throughout the night, getting up for a pee, number 2 or play every hour and a half. In the morning bought puppy purrie which he went through a tin one go without breathing. Immediately going to sleep. Today he's more exploring and free. Looking forward to many years of companionship. Was baptised, Hawk.
