Border Inspection

Post by Pettycash »

Dagsê manne, die van julle wat al deur Namibië se grensposte met RTT deur is: laat hulle jou actually die dak tent oop maak of is hulle nou nie so streng nie?
Weet julle dalk wat is die reëls om ń compound boog oor te vat?

Hi Rubin

Im not sure of the rules about taking a compound bow thru the border, but we have been thru the border every year for the past 5 years and have been lucky enough to have never been asked to open our vehicle at all.
Im sure if you wait a bit, one of the members will have the ansewr for you.

MOST people never gets asked to open their vehicle ...

but you never know !!

My BIL had a "bad experience" with some nasty border officials (good few years back) - they went up for a funeral and grandpa tagged along, the official was rude to grandpa and BIL was "silly" enough to take the bait .... had to unpack the WHOLE vehicle !!!!!

We never unpacked.
Once the guy wanted to know what is in the trailer, I opened the trailer and kept the lid open, pretending that the lid do not have something to hold it, I told him "No problem, you can take everything out and have a look". He lost interest and told us we can go.

One thing I learned from border posts is to always be friendly (not over friendly) , not say too much and keep yourself stupid. If they ask what job you do, do not try to brag with "CEO of the world bank", rather say you are a teacher or social worker or something.

We have also not ever been asked to open our RTT. They sometimes ask to have a quick look inside the canopy, but never asked us to unpack.

Our biggest headache has always been with the South African border personnel... They are arrogant and unfriendly..

Ja... For vehicle you need...

1) Registration papers of vehicle
2) Letter from financing house giving you permission to take the car out of the Republic (if you are still paying it off)
3) Letter from insurance stating that you are insured

But in all the years nobody ever asked us for it at a crossing into Nam/BW... But like a condom, I would rather have it and not need it,then need it and not have it...
