Howziit
Last night coming back from PTA to JHB I managed to get a puncture. The front left wheel went pap pretty much immediately.
After k@kking myself a little bit, I managed to stop the Lux about 3km from ORT behind a truck, also suffering puncture issues. And so the fun began.......
Now we all love our luxes and rightly so, but last night.....
Firstly I couldnt for the life of me get that hook to lock into the spare wheel dropping device. I was rolling around under that bakkie for flippen ages. I swear I was a snipers worst nightmare.
Once it hooked in I managed to get the spare out without an issue. Then the jack, what the hell were the people at toyota thinking with that jack?
Mine doesnt lift the bakkie high enough to pull the wheel off. So in desperation I called my boet who brought his bakkie with his jack to help me lift the hub to change the wheel. Turns out the jack is poked on my bakkie so Toyota are testing it now. Saying they cant believe this happened. Maybe they think im a chop and I cant find a jacking point, Ill never know.
Now to the crux of the matter. Big thanks to Andrew Schmidt from the club for helping me out of a jam.
2ndly Not ONE SANRAL vehicle stopped to assist. So ill keep saving my money thanks.
I need the cash for a jack and a wheel spanner.

It is one of those frustrating bakkie patents, and all the bakkie builders, not only Toyota has the same problem.
I used my prvoius bakkie for weekend trails and competitions, so i had to get to the sparewheel often.
My mods:
1) Weld the wind-down handle joints so it won't come apart.
2) Cut the handle part off and weld a 21mm wheel nut in it's place
3) Pull a rubber hose over the rod
4) Insert the rod ( the length must be just right so that only the nut protrudes just above the no plate)
5) Tack weld a small rod across the winch receiver to keep the handle in place
6) Get a wooden block about 300mmx300mm and 3" thick, bolt your jack onto it
7) Make a descent handle for your jack that doesn't jump out when you use it
If i do the mod again, i'll take some pics

That wind down spare wheel was one of the main reasons for moving the spare to the back bumper (It gets worse when you have the tyre coming of the rim in sand and the bakkie go and lie on the sparewheel... no chance of getting it off). Also replaced my standard Toyota jack with a bottle jack with a double stem for extra lift. Luckily I found out in my own garage that I cant lifit the wheel of the ground with the standar jack...
But with your mod I might just be able to pop a second spare on the bottom for the linger trips again as oppose to poping it on the canopy.
Thanks for sharing

I had a similar problem a while back. I can't understand why toyota didn't put a locating funnel for the hoist like they done on the old SFA Hilux. That van is almost 20years old and its still easier to change the tyre.

Re: 1 Hour Tyre Change
On my previous bakkie you also could not get the jack in if the wheel is flat and you are on solid surface like cement.
