D4D oil??

Hi Guys

The time has come to do a oil change on my 3.0 D4D. It is a 2008 model with 170 000km on.
What oil do you guys recon I should use. Personally I prefer Shell. On my 3.0 5L i used to use Rimula but with these new generation turbo diesels I have no clue.
One of my suppliers said that I should use the new series Rimula and the guy at the Shell garage said HX5.
I would appreciate your input.

Thanks

If you look at the owners manual it is surprising that the oil specification is not that high at all. Having said that I really believe in using good oil. In mine I have used Caltex Delo 400 from its 100 000 km service right up to now at 245 000 kms.

I'm not too familiar with the current range of Shell oils but just look for the one made for turbo diesel engines and it should be fine.

I have the same model and mileage, and like Mars, I also use Caltex Delo 400.

Op my KZ, wat sonder die "snot seperator" (dit haal blykbaar bietjie carbon uit die olie wat die D4D het) het ek al shell hx3, hx5, hx7 en fuchs titan 20w50 geloop. Caltex delo gold 400 is by midas vir R189 vir 5L.

hilux due for it's 220K service... been reading up on some oils to use...
according to some services at dealers i see they use 10W30. But alot here uses Delo 400 which is 15W40 ????
why would Toyota use thicker oil?

Thinner! :siffler:

From manual.
If the quality is visibly poor, replace the oil.
Oil grade:
API CF--4 or CF (You may also use API CE or CD)
If you use SAE 10W--30 or higher viscosity oil in extremely low
temperatures, the engine may become difficult to start, so SAE
5W--30 engine oil is recommended.

You can use the Delo 400 with confidence. My Lux has done 179 000 ks on Delo 400 now. Still not using a drop of oil.

i always thought the lower those numbers are the thicker the oil.
thinking that diesel engines needed a thicker oil (higher viscosity ???)
