Alternator light - False signal

Post by 4x4Que »

Good day,

I have a 2005 4.0 V6 D/c Hilux.
On a recent trip the alternator light came on(the red battery on the dash) expecting the battery to die I was surprised when I got home and all was working fine, and has been for the last week and a bit.
I went to a auto electricians to have the unit tested. All tested 100% they mentioned that the voltage regulator might be giving a false signal to the dash.

They also mentioned that they have to remove the alternator and see if the voltage regulator can be replaced. Apparently on the Denso models they can not and then its a new alternator!!!
if its a Bosch they can replace just the regulator.

Any had this problem before?

The Denso alternators are serviceable and you would not have to replace the whole unit. I had mine (D4D) and a friends done previously.

There's a guy here in aus that reconditions them. Replacing the reg/rec so its not temperature controlled anymore and replaces the dodgy one way pulley with a solid one and all at a fraction of the cost of a new unit.
