Looking for 2.4 gd6

Post by dalkill »

So i just sold the D4D i bought from Riaan 6 years ago.
This is the longest i ever kept a vehicle, cause it was such nice drive compared to the previous bakkies i had.

But it was time for upgrade. Not really more power needed, but just newer.

So i looked at the GD6 prices :shock2: .. oh my hat.. what happened.
Looks like the floods in durban has sky rocketed hilux prices.

There is a 2.4 for sale in strand by dealer, that was going for R350K ealier this year.
Now suddenly R399K.

I was about to commit to +-2016 Isuzu kb300. Then i read the terrible news about the growing lawsuite in Australia against Isuzu because of body and chassis cracking. Wow from a company i though which specialise in trucks.

Then i thought ford. I have never been ford guy, but driving in my friend brand new ford FX4, 10 speed auto
But then i saw the 56+ page problem thread on 4x4community on ford T6 and thought... nah. This from a company that says "built ford tough"
Even though my other friend has his wildtrack now for 6 years no problems.

So now my heart and head says stay in the hilux stable. BUT, the toyota problems thread on 4x4community is also failry long, with dust ingress problems, exhuast gasket leaks , horrible stone chip protection above windscreen, turbo rubber hose coming loose etc.

It seems that bakkies are just not built that tough anymore. It seems though toyota has the least / more manageble problems.

anybody know where i can still find 2.4 double cab for about R350K?

If I was in your shoes, I'd go straight for the Isuzu.

There is a few of the 300's(2013 and newer) between my family and friends, mostly farmers and not one has a chassis issue.

I have read about chassis but Isuzu stood by there product and replaced the chassis. Apparently took about a month whilst they gave the guys a loan vehicle. I serious doubt that Toyota will do something like this?

The biggest issue with Toyota at the moment is theft and highjackings. And the crazy insurance premiums. I know of several that has been liberated in the last few months.

At the end of the day you want to drive around safely with your family and get your vehicle where you parked it?

Do I think the Hilux is good? Oh yes!
Would I like to drive one? Definitely.
Am I willing to risk my and my family's safety for a brand? Hell no!

Maybe ask your insurance broker to do comparison quotes on a similar year Isooz and a Hilux?

On top of it all, I think you get way more car for your money with the Isuzu.

The other good option for me is a Triton. Super tough vehicles and really well priced!

Happy hunting!

This is exactly why my friend went for the FX4. For the same price he got top of the range ford, as the standard gd6.

I have seen one Isuzu already advertised in the eastern cape with the crack in the engine bay. maybe the roads are particularly bad that side of the world, but we live in south africa. driving in some of our poorer suburbs in cape town you have potholes that will buckle your wheels. So bad roads are a given.

I'm worried about buying an Isuzu and with my luck, i just get the lemon that cracks on the first gravel road i hit. The road between gansbaai and bredasdorp is about the baddest corrugated road i drive. But then i do go offroading into the bush, and here literally drive on rocks... some as bad that i crawl in 1st low just to let bakkie idle over it evenly.

and the articles i read on the issue, Isuzu blaming offroad bullbars and driving too much on gravel roads :shock2: . Why the heck does one buy an offroad vehicle ??

Waiting for feedback from Isuzu themselves on their stance on the issue. Hopefully like you said they will stand by their product.

Have you every fully understood why the frames crack? Is it a general issue or specific to people who have fitted everything including the kitchen sink to the back of their bakkie. Remember that vehicles are built for certain specs and carrying capacity. And then they get overloaded and misused ...

For bad corrugated roads: suspension upgrade.

I would certainly still look at Isuzu as an option.

Seems like the engine check light should be on with those errors. Are the errors logged in the history? Issue(s) might have been fixed but error codes not cleared.

I would ask local dealer to have a look first.
