KZTE ENGINE

Post by Ivanvdb1 »

Good day everyone,

My name is Ivan and I am relatively new to the forum. I recently bought a Prado 98 model with the kzte engine.

The car have done 400k km and the engine has never been opened. I know it because I bought from a family member. The car is still pulling like rocket with no troubles. BUT....

The car is really really heavy on fuel. I get around 5 km/l and what I have read is the other guys get around 8 km/l. My foot is not that heavy, I am cruising at 110 km/h.
And then a other thing I have notice is that the car make a cloud of black smoke between 1ste and 2nd. I know diesel make a smoke when you pull away but can the car maybe overfuel?

I need some advice on what can I do to get the car a little more fuel efficient?
The car have a aftermarket intercooler as well as a Uni Chip.

Thanks guys I would appreciate any advise.

Hi Tristin,

Yes the intercooler is located infront, below of the engine.

Evening
I would first install a catch can to catch the excess oil fumes going into the intake. Then remove the intercooler and clean it out with petrol, with that high mileage I bet alot of oil has accumulated in the intercooler lying at the bottom.

Hi Ivan,

I would book it in at Dastek to have a look at the map and see if the settings is optimal or injectors might need some love.

A short list of stuff that affects fuel consumption negatively:

Bigger tyres
Aggressive tyre
Heavy tyres
A lifted car
Replacement bumper
Snorkel
Roof rack, even worse with a rooftop tent.
Bad injectors
Blocked air filter
Poor tune
Worn turbo/boost not correct
Short trips
and a host others more.

I hope you get the car sorted quickly and have endless fun!
