OEM Wheel & Tyre Size

Post by dax021 »

Hi All,

Could someone please tell me what was the OEM wheel/tyre size on a 1990 4Y SFA DC (YN67) I have searched extensively for this info and get so many different answers. My owner's manual doesn't say, except under pressure specs, and then it's for a 16" rim. Mine has 15" rims with 30x9.5 R15's fitted (but don't know if this is OEM). I seem to remember being told on this forum, that 31" is the way to go. My Velocity Raptors now have about 60K on them with hopefully another 3K odd to go, so replacement is looming. SA 4x4 has been pushing Brutus Tyres which are slighter cheaper than Velocities. Any thoughts on these? (the free pressure monitor does sway me slightly in this direction). Input appreciated, thanks. Peter

Peter, for what its worth, my 1987 SFA has 15" rims, and had the 30" tyres. I fitted Cooper 31" AT tyres and they fit like a charm, speedo is also pretty much spot-on with readings now to. I do have raised OME suspension so there is no clearance problem anywhere. Pretty sure that even with standard suspension 31" tyres would fit fine with no snagging, unless the suspension has become tired and sagged.

I seem to recall others have also fitted the 31" tyres with no ill effects.

I looked at the specs for the 1992 Roadtest published by SA4x4 Magazine, the last page states that the vehicle is fitted with 31 x 10.5 x 15 tyres, same size as mine. You should be alright.

I would love to get a skinnier tyre, but want to try the bigger diameter to drop the revs a bit. Unfortunately, these days as they get taller, they get wider. i just hope my 4Y is going to turn the big wheels, it will be an expensive mistake if it is too pap
