tyre size options

I'm looking for a spare tyre for the hilux. Current spare does not fill me with confidence .

Just bought a new set of tyres last year on black friday , so swambo gonna kill me if i spend more on tyres.
So scouting around for good second hand one for the spare.

Spare wheel has the standard rim, not the mag rim, so that means it fits a 225/70/17 tyre as standard.
What other tyre options can i go for that will fit on the rim? 235/(70 or 65)/17 , 255/65/17 etc?

thansk dax, but that site does not tell me if it will fit or not.
Just the differences in size and rotational speed.

originally the bakkie came with 225/70/17 steelies, but previous owner put on the gd6 mags.
but spare if still steelie. I do have a 265/65/17 spare, not in great condition but good enough, but not sure if it will fit on that steelie.

Looking at the above comparison, should i rather be looking for a rim to put that 265 on.
with the difference in diamater between the two tyres, does it not mean the bakkie could be a bit lobsided if i have to use the spare?

Can't help with the 1st question, but the answer to your 2nd is yes, it will be a bit lopsided. That's why when I went from 30" to 31" tyres, I bought 5. The only way to make a different diameter spare work, is to only use it on the front and stay in 2wd with hubs unlocked i.e., free

It will be lob sided. If both rims and tyres are 17" the tyres will fit both the mags and steelies. Just note that in some Hiluxes there is a big difference in wheel nuts between mags and steel rims.

Thank Pieter. I'll try to fit the 265/65/17 tyre on that steelie rim before dishing out cash for another mag rim.

So i popped in by local tyre shop this morning. Conveniently this guy open on Sunday morning, so you don't have to rush everything on a Saturday.
Fitted the 265/65/17 onto the standard 17" steelie. Saving me have to fork out a couple of Ronds for another mag rim. Thanks again Pieter
