Well done Niel and administrators on a welcome initiative. 4x4 enthusiasts have long been regarded as environmentally 'unfriendly', the common perception being that we don't really care as long as we can have our fun whilst tearing up the veld. Although I am convinced that this is not generally the case, helpfull tips by forum members can educate us all that little bit more to be and be seen as conservationists.

So to get the ball rolling here are a couple of tips (that you may already be aware of).
1. When negotiating a beach where one is not prohibited, do so at low tide if possible, but stay within the high water mark. The sand is moist and more compact making for easier travel but also turtles lay their eggs just below the surface above the high tide water line. Birds like plovers and dikkops lay their eggs in the same areas but on top of the sand and are well camouflaged.

2. Keep a strip of old carpet (about 200 x 450 mm) with your recovery equipment. When using a tree as an anchor for recovery, shield the trunk with the carpet strip against damage from chains / cables.

3. Use existing tracks in the veld, or if in convoy keep to the tracks of the leading vehicle. Leave a small footprint of your having been there.

Basic stuff, but I still see guys that don't do it.

:D: Looks like you just ran over an Eagle's nest and two vulture nests with eggs. :D

And people believe that when you see a pic like that in a Toyota ad, that the vehicle was put there with a crane just because that's the way Nissan and Landrover do it! :mrgreen: :twisted: :mrgreen:
