Foaming Pine Trees

After the rain two days ago I drove past the little cluster of pine trees and more than half of them had this “foam" around the base of the tree (water was dripping down tree trunk). I have never seen this before …..can anyone offer an decent explanation for this?

Looks like the work of some form of parasite / bug on the trees. Could be a spittle bug. Pines don't foam. Unusual sight though.

Andy is quite correct it is indeed the work of a parasite; hence not all the trees show signs of foam.

The parasite in question is the Jogus Energeticus; frequents the environs during the early and late hours of daylight. :Geek:

The foam is excreeted as a result of the high concentrations of Energade, Powerade and other similar high energy beverages consumed by the modern day species.

I may be wrong but it looks like Grey or Southern Foam Nest Tree Frogs (Chiromantis xerampelina) but they normally lay their eggs in foam on branches overhanging water.
