2009 Year End Function - Western Cape

I know it is early days yet and the Christmas decorations are not up in the shops yet, but I want to let you guys know that Niel and I spoke about a nice year end function like the one we had last year.

We were throwing around dates, and sort of came to the weekend of 28/11/2009. --- Sorry I was not looking what I typed 28/09/2009 is wrong --- This weekend is ideally situated because it is just before everybody disappears on summer holidays and before that last rush to get all work done before the Christmas break. Another reason for starting early is because we want to get a nice venue for the event.

We were thinking along the lines of a day at Dirt and Dust, where we can make some nice braai fires, kids can play and the guys can strut their stuff on the obstacles with their Hiluxes.

Can we have some feedback on this so long, as I would like to approach Quintus from D&D as soon as possible to secure the venue, if it is to everybody's liking.

Let's try this again. Everybody had a stab at me for getting the original date wrong, sorry guys, I'll try not to do it again.

I went to visit Dirt&Dust on Sunday morning just to have a look at the setup and the facilities that they offer. There is a rudimentary shelter that will provide some protection from the sun in the afternoon, toilet facilities and braai area for afterwards.

There are about 14 obstacles, mostly holes and hills created with a digger-loader with varying degrees of difficulty. Some of these obstacles look pretty mean at first glance and it seems like we could spend hours trying to go up and over some of them. I also saw some mud puddles, but I guess by the time we go there they will be dried up if we dont get rain in the mean time.

With us being a pretty resilient out-doorsy bunch I am sure we will excell in the conditions and make a great outing of it. I need to get a sort of indication of how many people wants to attend this event so that I can negotiate with the owners to book out the venue for us on the day. if we are not going have enough attendees, we'll have to be content with sharing the facilities with quad bikes and Land Rover drivers. :roll:

It's a good venue, lots of space for the kids.

Myself and Armien played there: piece a cake for the hiluxes : there's also a sand section at the back.on that day the owner dugged a new hole for the venue ( shortwheelbase)Jeep wrangler.tested the hole with our longwheelbase.fitted nicely.no room for manouvrement.(comment by owner)( daai goed gaan orals) :D .at that same day a range rover (V8)was also playing in the sand.they had to tow him out as he was stuck.

later that day we played in the same sand section.no problems.

Conditions and Facilities at Dirt & Dust. What to expect.
:arrow: There is not a lot of shade or trees on the premises, but there is a shed (3 high walls) with a canvas top and a cement floor at the braai/kuier area that provides some shade, and shelter from wind (this IS Cape Town).
:arrow: There is a big round communal braai area where we can all make a big fire to braai.
:arrow: The tables that are there are pretty rudamentary.
:arrow: There are clean toilets.

Please bring the following:
:arrow: R100 entrance fee per vehicle.
:arrow: Your own camping chairs, and maybe a camping table if you want to.
:arrow: Wide brimmed hat to keep the sun off your face and off the tops of your ears.
:arrow: Drinking water.
:arrow: A braai grid and other braai utensils or organise with a buddy to share.
:arrow: At least 1 pack of braai wood.
:arrow: Vleis/Wors to braai or organise with a buddy to share.
:arrow: A few frosties to enjoy after the 4x4 fun.

The Agenda

We will get going at about 9:00. But there is no fixed time to be there, as all the obstacles are pretty close together and late-comers are welcome to join in the fun a bit later. Prize-giving will be at 14:00 by which time the fires should be going already.

Mostly the day will be a "free style" event, where the guys can roam from obstacle to obstacle and try things out at their leisure. The main objective of the day is to get together, play a little on the obstacles, have a good time, exchange some ideas, braai and just generally have a kwaai kuier. This is also an ideal opportunity to get your better half behind the wheel so they can also get some experience driving your Hilux.

Nothing has been finalised yet, but maybe we will have a little competition at some of the obstacles again. There are a few prizes to be given away at a lucky draw again like last time, so in order to get your backside in the draw you need to have your name on the list, AND you need to be there when the draw takes place... right Niel??

Hmmm ..... yes, off topic Mark, but an interesting idea ..... a breakfast run for Toyota's with a short trail to the destination .... preferably with a little mug hole so that there's no need for the spray on stuff!

Well right now Cape Town's R300 is a pretty good obstacle course... and there's a good chance of a bit of taxi bullying along the way! My UNO just makes it...

I will probably get to the event a little late on Sat... got another minor commitment at 9am first... family first ne!
