Re: Ratels raider returns
Got to say the bridgestone ats have been the most amazing tyres. 5 years in the bush and not a puncture. Put them on 10 years ago when my dunlop marie buiscuits split rims bombed out and could not get the same size tyres in botswana. My old man had them on his cruiser and he drove up to give me a se...

Ratels raider returns
Well after many years of being broke (academia as an ecologist) and then actually being my own boss. I had a few extra bucks to get my 25 year old sfa repainted. The next steps are new tyres suspension and a bit of tlc on the 350 000 km mostly offroad that my 22r engine has done. I will probably jus...

Re: Engine mounting failure
I went through quite a few midas mounts whilst working in Botswana, and my conclusion never again. You get what you pay for. I battled to find decent motor mounts for a while and refused to pay Toyotas price. Eventually I managed to get a pair from N1 4x4 north of Pretoria. They do post if I remembe...

Re: Advice on 87 Hilux for Africa trip
Sorry Family dog have to disagree with you on the spotlights on the roof thing. I was working up north and it entailed alot of night driving, after hitting two donkeys sleeping in the road, this is with two hella rally 500 on the bull bar. I mounted another 4 spots on the roll bar. The extra height ...

Evolution and not performance
Hey piet Maybe an idea to move away from the 4x4 aspect and look at the history of how the hilux came around. That way we follow the evolution of the hilux and not performance so no one will get upset and no loyalties stepped on. This method we will need a thread on the history of the toyota hilux t...

I saw your posts on the revolver shackles and am considering them only problem at the moment is getting enough money together for all I need to do. Varsity study bursaries don't extend to upgrades. Anyway almost have enough for the suspension and if I have to get a bit extra will be worth it. You sa...

ratel's raider se 1995 2.4 petrol Hilux
No real mods, but one fine day. Has got a kick A#^ sound system, and a home made double battery system. Next on the books is definately a full Ironman suspention. The original suspenstion is totally shot. This vehicle has worked very very hard, and still goes like a bomb http://i209.photobucket.com/...

PCV System
My 22R engine (1995 hilux single cab 2.4 petrol) has developed a nasty habit of using oil, which happened very quickly, The engine has never used oil and then used about a liter of oil over about 1000 km. Does anyone know about the PCV (positive Crank ventilation system), did some reading up when I ...
