Motor swap

I have a 2y in my Lux... I've recently seen a 4y going for 7500 and a 3y going for 6000. How easy would it be to replace the 2y with either motor? How different would the wiring be?

Thanks

Re: Alternator or Starter Motor?

Hi all... Just for everyone, an update - checked all the wiring, checked earths, voltage etc. Battery was on 11.4, and with the motor running, it didnt go up or down... So checked the alternator and it was toast - after 20 odd years on my old tank I'm pretty sure it would be. Went off to get a new o...

Alternator or Starter Motor?

I have a problem that I cant start my truck. I can bump start, no problems. I turn the key and the starter barely turns, and then nothing. Turn the key again, and click click click - nothing. Tonight, driving home, my lights just started dimming, getting dimmer and dimmer to the point that they were...

Re: How do I wire in my tach???

So I think I've come to the conclusion that:
A) I wont be able to use the tach on my "pointless, anti-electronic" dizzy ;)
B) That I actually need a new dash/speedo/tach unit.

Anyone think its possible to use a newer model dash in a really OLD Hilux??

Thanks for all the answers guys...

Re: How do I wire in my tach???

Ok, ignore all I said about the 2 wires - just pulled the dash apart, and those 2 wires dont do much.
Anyway, the guy who had the vehicle before me shredded the wiring, and if I could just find where the coil is, then I can take it from there. AND I HAVE NO DAMN IDEA WHERE THE COIL IS!!! :(

Re: How do I wire in my tach???

Ok, just been scanning around - coming off the dash loom (and here I am assuming its for the tach) are two wires (with a connector) one wire is green with a yellow thin stripe and the other is a white with a thin black stripe...

And I cant find my damn coil!! Am I being dumb or what?!?

Re: How do I wire in my tach???

Its the ome tach. It has two wire running off of the dash/speedo/tach loom that do not attach to anything and I am assuming that these are the wires for the tach. It does get power because when I turn the key it jumps ever so slightly. This is before I actually crank the motor.

How do I wire in my tach???

How do I wire my tach into my system? The guy who owned my monster before me decided to rip apart all the wiring, and it isnt wired into anything. The wiring from the tach leads to no where, and there are no loose wires running off the motor.

HELP!!

Re: Petrol Guage Sensor - Any suggestions?

Thanks for the reply F.D. I assumed that it was meant to go to earth via the fuel tank because there was only 1 wire attached to the sender. It worked perfectly before, then suddenly stopped. The thing is - when I attach the lead to the terminal, and touch the actual sender body to the frame work of...

Petrol Guage Sensor - Any suggestions?

My petrol gauge has recently stopped working. The guage on the dash works fine (tested). I thought it might be the sensor - took it out, hooked it back up to the wiring and it works - the SECOND it goes into the tank it stops working. I can put the float all the way into the tank and it works. The s...

Bogs down with petrol... what gives??

Hi all. Had a problem with my exhaust recently - wasnt bolted on correctly. Sorted the problem out, but now when I start from cold, it holds idle. I have an old 2y Motor in my Hilux. Does anyone have any tuning suggestions or any knowledge on these old motors? It runs well, just needs carb setting and timing and a few other small things.
Any suggestions will help (besides the obvious change the motor suggestion!)
