I'll try cleaning it if I get the manifold welded up and see how it goes.

Turns out there was a cracked / loose manifold in front of the turbo. So I'm not sure which one was causing the issue. But the turbo is chalk full of carbon so I'm hoping that cleaning it out will fix the problem. Now I just have to find an exhaust manifold here in the US. Suggestions?

Turbo not working. Think it's carbon. How do I clean?
I have a 84 hilux with the 2lt. Yesterday it lost all power, smoke everywhere. Limped home. Today I took off the intake and the turbo seems to be a little locked up. I can turn the blades, but they don't spin freely. There is almost no smoke at idle when the air isn't running through the compressor....
