Re: Drivetrain Humming / Vibration coasting in 2WD but not 4WD

Apologies for the slow response, I got under the car and inspected the uni's (all seemed fine!) however I was unable to great the rear uni joint, it just wouldn't accept any grease. I sprayed it with some WD40 and poked a small screwdriver though the nipple to see if it was blocked which it wasn't. ...

Drivetrain Humming / Vibration coasting in 2WD but not 4WD

Hi All, I've been experiencing some humming / vibration when coasting in gear. Most noticeable in 3rd & 4th <2000rpm, dissapears once I give it some gas or push down the clutch. Interestingly this vibration / noise is completely nonexistent in 4WD. All fluids were changed about 3 months ago, thi...

Re: Valve Clearances 2.7 (3rz)

How interesting! All the Tacoma forums in the states have the 3rz and they all mention how important it is, should I even bother adjusting g the ones that are .005mm too tight?

Re: Valve Clearances 2.7 (3rz)

Thanks for the reply mud dog ☺ Measured the clearances cold using a feeler gauges under the individual cam lobes as per the FSM. I thought the 3rz was prone to burnt exhaust valves?

Valve Clearances 2.7 (3rz)

Hi Guys, So I decided to check my valves on my new to me (18 year old) 2.7 3rz Dual Cab as I doubt they had been checked / adjusted before. There was a fair amount of carbon / gunk on the cover and the spark.plug oil seals were crumbly. That being saidnthe timing chain and everything else looks soli...

2000 IFS - Interpreting OBD2 Results

Hi All, I recently purchased a $4 ELM327 OBD2 Bluetooth dongle with absolutely not expectation that it would communicate with my Australian 3RZ-FE. To my surprise it works completely fine paired with the Android Torque Pro app $5 I searched for errors and there was none (which I expected) however th...

Re: Horn Stuck after Compression Test - RZN169r 2000

Good news! Horn is functional again.. however I cant 100% say if it was the relay at fault. I discovered that the wire connecting to the horn had a little black heat shrink that is obviously protecting some dodgy wiring that was tucked behind the radiator. I have wrapped in as a short term solution....

Re: Horn Stuck after Compression Test - RZN169r 2000

After a bit of dismantling I was able to remove the horn relay which is behind the driver foot well fuse box, ordered a new one that will arrive tomorrow. Fingers crossed this solves the issue. Short of removing the entire steering wheel and checking the column I'm not sure what to look at next? To ...

Re: Horn Stuck after Compression Test - RZN169r 2000

Well I stuck my head under the footwell and everything looks fine except the steering shaft (uni joint thing) is caked in fluff and crap. Wires look fine in the engine bay too. Is the horn relay behind the driver footwell fuse box? Should the relay click when the horn is depressed because mine does ...

Horn Stuck after Compression Test - RZN169r 2000

Hi All, I performed a compression test today and afterward while I was re-assembling the horn started blaring incessantly. I pulled the fuse which stopped it however after putting everything back together and taking it for a test drive the problem persists! (when the fuse is plugged in) :slap: The g...

Re: Gearbox leaking into Transfer - 2000 RZN169r DC

Thanks for the comprehensive responses, I totally agree with replacing any easily accessible seal while its all out. I have contacted a mechanic / part yard that specialises in only Hilux's who advised the cost to replace the inner seal is about $400AUD ($4,205.70ZAR) which I think is quite reasonab...

Gearbox leaking into Transfer - 2000 RZN169r DC

Hi All, I recently purchased a RZN169r Hilux that has done about 190k kms, I purchased a Haynes workshop manual which in combination with this forum has been very useful to give it the TLC it deserves! I have also discovered ToyoDIY and Amayama which have been a real eye opener on parts availability...

Greetings from across the pond

Hi all I have recently purchased a RZN169r with less than 190k kms with 3RZ-FE I am from Aus but have found this forum to be the most helpful online forum, the speedo cable and rear diff guides were especially useful! I have a few questions I'll post in the appropriate sections Thanks all for the in...
