Hi Shaun,

That is definitely a backyard job that went sour. The key is suppose to be made with a softer metal in order to shear without damaging the interface parts.

Thanks again for all the tips! I folwed the stethoscope advice and traced it to a rear brake shoe binding against an oval brake drum. It seems as if the self adjuster got a little confused when the drum got oval. Everything is fixed now and SWAMBO is happy! I didn't try that nurse trick in the bedro...

GM gebruik Castol Techtion of GTX2.

Die maklikste vinnigste check is om die plugs te trek. Kyk vir die plug wat anders asdie ander lyk in terme van kleur, nattigheid, ens.
As al vier naasteby dieselfde lyk, kan dit dalk net 'n los kontak iewers op 'n harnas wees wat krag vir die enjin lewer of so-iets.

Hi Asterix, what you failed to mention is that it takes ages to fill the diffs this way. Maybe it's just me, but the oil is so thick it just dribbled down the tube. Took 90 minutes per diff to fill. Could be the cold weather we're having. I used a 10 mm diam tube, next time will try a slightly fatt...

Hi Jaco, Just check by removing the paint if those cracks are metal cracks. Very thick paint buildup also tends to crack and from your pics the paint looks thick. Ja, die toets sal werk as die piston slap is a.g.v. die piston en sleeve se toleransie wat te groot is. Die geraas behoort ook baie harder te wees as die enjin koud is. Om vir Piston slap te toets in 'n toe enjin is moeilik. In die verlede het ek dit net opgetel as mens die enjin uitmekaar haal. Het jy al kleppe / lifters gekyk?
Baie mense verwar piston slap met dit en kleppe is geneig om makliker te raas.

Hoeveel kilo's het jou enjin gedoen voordat hy laas oop was?

I think I will go big nut route since the everything is 70% stripped already. Great tip about the geyser element spanner - I forgot I have one like that.

If I mark the nut not replacing it but rather use blue Loctite when assembling again - will it be fine?

That is definitely a possibility.
I saw a Total truck filling Engen tanks late at night. Who knows what is exactly in the tanks at the filling station?
