Whatever you do stick with a Toyota engine. 7M motors are still bullet proof as are the 1uz. Some guys have put the kzte in as well. Lots of info here on installation.

I don't know any African country that isn't corrupt. Safety is the biggest issue. Mozambique , Zambia , Malawi and Botswana are all safe countries to travel. SA is probably the worst in Southern Africa for crime and corruption.

Be careful at the border they sometimes charge you for petrol in jerry cans. They are not allowed to so tell them to show you in the book where it says you must pay. ...

A standard 22R box. It's a R151 I think. You might have a stout gearbox because they were made for low gearing.

You can't change the rear without changing the front ratios otherwise you will damage your diffs, gearbox and transfer case. Easy thing would be to change the gearbox. All Toyota gearboxes will fit your bell housing. Running 33" tyres will help too by about 10%. Something seems wrong with your ...

Re: Toyota 7GME en 5GME

Parts are still available for the 7m motors and if done properly are bullet proof engines that won't break your drive train. Won't break the bank either. Lexus IS an awesome engine but hard on the drive train. You will go through centre portions on your rear prop from the torque.
