Re: Black smoke while accelerating and when changing gears on a toyota fortuner 2007 3l d4r
is it chipped? or has the ecu been remapped (perhaps by a previous owner)?
black smoke is fuel in a diesel.
If its stock, maybe get the injectors cleaned and checked.

Re: EGR valve
@montie have you had the vehicle from new?
Could be that the EGR has already been disabled via the software by a previous owner.
My D4D with less than 160 000kms had a very dirty EGR. Looked like it was packed with wheel bearing grease
I've disabled the EGR on my Isuzu via software. No issues

Stock ECU or you running a chip? If running a chip try removing it. Taking a while to start does sound like glow plug related as Mud Dog said. Got mine from https://www.efficientexpress.co.za/
Prices are decent and quality is good.
I've seen it on the grey. Looks good.
If not changing wheels I would definitely not go for the big flares with the studs. It makes the current wheels look skinny.

I agree with Johan's comment about the 2.4 GD6 performing much better than the 2.5D4D I've owned the 3.0 D4D and now the 2.8GD6. They are completely different vehicles. The drive, the power, the braking. I'd rather buy a high mileage GD6 than a low mileage D4D. Dont get me wrong the D4D is still a f...

Re: Hilux Questions from a Newbie
Hi Jason, The 2016 Hilux should be fine. The GD6 is still a "new" engine so I cannot comment on how well it handles mileage. However it is a Toyota so should be fine for miles and miles WRT the 2.4. It's powerful enough to be a good comfortable drive. The only time you might notice the dif...

you can use throttle body cleaner spray to clean the areas of the piping which have sensors.
for the normal pipe pieces you can use acetone.
