Re: Common problems with SFA HiLux?
Problems, what problems? I bought an 89 2200 that had been severly abused by previous owner. A whining 5th gear , towbar and winch mount indicated this vehicles previous life was spent launching a boat and towing long distance as a holiday vehicle. The rust (most surface) also says it probably took ...

Re: Hilux not as reliable as one thinks
That should be phrased "new Hilux" not as reliable as one thinks. My 1989 2200 has 446000km without any major work. It has covered almost 10 000km in the last 6 months including a number of trips into the Okavango Delta etc. Turn the key, point the nose and amble along. Thirsty, slow and s...

Aaah at long last I can post a pic of the Lux known as Matshwane. The entire body from front bulkhead back is fibreglass.

Cammy's Conversion?
Man alive it's me again. Trying to figure out who did the conversion on my Lux. Will post photo soonest, but eager to hear if there are any other "Early Fortuner" prototypes out there. Vehicle is '89, but conversion could have been later, sadly we know very little of the van.

Re: leaf spring quick test
I can only offer my rusty, sagged and scrap springs, I have decided to go with Mikem suspension, really like the idea of greasable shackles and pins. Hoping to fit next week and will let know how they ride.

What Manual??
Hi All
Trying to decide which repair manual to buy, there seems to be a few choices. Have had Haynes manuals for previous vehicles, but need a decent manual for 1989 2200 4x4. Any recommendations welcomed.
Thanks

Re: Dream Realised
Hi Oom_B Many thanks for the advice, I have booked the Lux in to SAC in Midrand on Monday for a full set of tests. I am very tempted to keep original motor and do an overhaul in time, while running an autozone unit for the interim. (It is the changing of engine numbers etc. that really scares me.) M...

Re: Greetings
Thanks - pics will follow shortly. The Bantam is long history and currently off-loading our Kia Sportage. It's all Lux from here on in. I will post pics as soon as SWMBO has taken them. I will also be needing some help to identify the station wagon conversion. Bakkie will be in next week for full in...

Dream Realised
Hi All With penny's in my pocket I hunted a SFA Lux and just when I gave up hope (went to look at a Defender V8 / 300tdi and Series 3 Landy) I have found my dream wheels. The vehicle is a 1989 2200 4x4 with station wagon conversion. The motor has 450 000km and still runs sweet, but as I will be base...
