Scenic backroads of Southern Namibia

If someone asks me where the prettiest backroads in Southern Africa are, I always tell them about Southern Namibia, especially the area south of Rosh Pinah where this photo was taken.

Mapungubwe giant

Mapungubwe is known for its large population of grey, four-legged giants, but on a recent visit we drove past this colossal green baobab tree on the Rhino Eco Trail in the western section of the park. Below is my Hilux and a friend's Land Cruiser.

Nossob 4x4 Eco Trail

If you're looking for a great way to explore the duneveld of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park without having to push your vehicle or driving skills to the limit, book a spot on the Nossob 4x4 Eco Trail. The trail runs between Twee Rivieren and Nossob (both ways depending on the month) and you sleep ...

Baviaanskloof - one of my favourite roads

Going through some old photos I came across this one of the Baviaanskloof - the pass must be one of the most scenic in our country and definitely one of my favourite routes to drive in South Africa!

We had been driving so far that we really didn't feel like turning around, so we took...

Great campsite in Khutse

If you're unsure which campsite to book in Khutse Game Reserve, go for Mahurushele no.3. It's got a nice central location and massive shade tree, and it's also nice and isolated.

Camping at Kalizo Lodge, Caprivi

On a recent trip to the Caprivi we stayed at a place called Kalizo Lodge just south-east of Katima Mulilo. It turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip, not only because you can camp right on the Zambezi River, but because a massive colony of Carmine Bee-eaters breed close by between August...

Follow our 70-day trip to the Serengeti and back!

After months and months of planning, good friend JI de Wet and I are finally heading off on an epic 70-day adventure to the Serengeti! We will be driving with my 2004 Toyota Hilux 2.7 petrol 4x4 double cab and estimate that the total distance will be around 15000 km. In order to share our adventure ...
