I've added U-channel to the inside of my chassis rails and enlarged the bolts that hold the bumper on (also got a custom bumper - similar to the original though). I think the U channel was a 400mm section of 75mm U-channel with I think M14 HT bolts

It's actually much simpler than the wiper switch since the high/low switch is not in the stalk, but in the column. Remove the steering wheel and the column covers. Remove the plugs from the loom. You should be able to remove and clean the entire switch mechanism. It's not difficult.

I'd be a little hesitant about mounting that hi-lift jack on the bull bar, even though it looks cool. In the event of a crash, you have a significant risk of it breaking free and becoming a projectile. Rather bolt it inside the canopy.

I've replaced the original bulbs with LEDs from 4x4direct, that are significantly better than the original incandescents.

My tail lights (local bin) are still working fine, except for the fact that my reverse light is pretty much useless. On removing the lens cover, I found that most of the chrome has flaked off, leaving a black plastic reflector. Does anyone know if there is a product out there to refurbish these? If...

I'm sure the pirate ones will fade. But since Toyota no longer have the left hand side light and if they did, it would cost R900, I can buy another 11 before I start to lose money.

Perhaps, but unlikely. Worth checking out if nothing else fixes it. You can always use it to trigger a relay directly from the battery positive.

Hi there

I need a tail light for an 87 SFA with the import bin (vertical tail lights). It's identical to the taillight of the Venture, but for some reason Toyota have ceased production of the LHS (passenger) one, the RHS they still make :slap: .

Anyone know where I can get a pirate part?

Ya,the blue-ing usually suggests that you've changed the temper of the metal. It's better to cool the shaft to shrink it rather than heat the bearing to expand it

Replacement from Toyota is R150. Which is cheaper than buying a sheet of 1mm steel because no one in Stellies has offcuts.

In my experience, it's better to replace the solenoid than go through the schelp of stripping it. Been there, ruined the T-shirt. Solenoids are not particularly expensive

Ya, no light. I tend to drive on the odo rather than the gauge, since the gauge in mine shows empty with about 10l left.

Is it the pump that's leaking? Or the banjo fitting on the high pressure side? That's just 2 O-rings to replace

If you take the pump to any hydraulic place they should be able to sort it for you.

I've not had mine apart, so I speak under correction, but what I can see from the parts stackup, is that there is only the gasket on the mating faces of the t-fer and g-box, and not around the shafts themselves. There are no o-rings or lip seals in that gasket set.

Yes, sorry, should have been more clear. I used 6mm closed cell foam sheeting from Sondor Foam. I didn't bother to stick it down on the floor - the seats and everything hold it well enough, but in the doors the adhesive will be needed.

Do the fixed ones first, then the hanger side. That way getting everything lined up is much easier

A wack with a hammer is always a good idea when the bolt and the thing it screws into are different metals (steel and aluminium in this case), it helps reduce the sticktion. That and copper slip are your friend

You can replace the filler plug with a camry one, that has a female 10mm allen socket, which works much better and doesn't strip easily.
