Re: to buy or not to buy?
My honest opinion - stay away (sorry I don't want to rain on your parade but that is my honest opinion), they have overheating problems, the rear diflock has an inherant problem with the actuator of I recall correctly. Go and search on the http://www.4x4community.co.za site. All of the issues have been discussed there in detail.

Read and decide for yourself, in the end it is still your money and your choice.

I suggest you sit back and have a cup of coffee and thank your lucky stars you didnt make the biggest mistake of your life.ecotech wrote:ok, lets say i scrap the colt idea what do you suggest?
As was said before, if you have to stay with a diesel, and you dont want to look at another KZTE? then look at the Ford/Mazda 2.5 D. They are pretty solid vehicles.

If I had to guess, I'd say Martin's mind is made up on selling the Hilux.JohanM wrote:Martin, ecotech wrote:ok, lets say i scrap the colt idea what do you suggest?

And that is not a bad thing. This is the perfect excuse to buy a 4x4
If you want to stay diesel, look at the 2.5 Ford/Mazda.
I should think another KZ-TE is out of the question??
How about a 2.7 Hilux? Bulletproof motor and performance not too shabby 8)
There are bargains out there, so do your homework - But Stay Away From The Colt

Martin,
Maybe I missed some of the info from the previous posts but why not rather state why you want to sell your current vehicle, its shortcomings and what your requirements is ie where do you want to go, type of terrain, family size, duration of trips, towing, how much you want to spend on accessories, how long you want to keep the new vehicle for, etc....

Re: to buy or not to buy?
His KZ is performing poorly but I still think the fact that he has a different diff in, with too tall a ratio for his set up is the cause of that problem, and 2nd of all it is only a 2x4 and I think even though Martin would not admit it out load he now realised the benefit of 4x4 over 2x4 off road

Re: to buy or not to buy?
So if it is purely offroad ability then the answer is simple. Go from the 4x2 to a 4x4 and stick with a Hilux.

Re: to buy or not to buy?
Martin,
The Ford/Mazda 2.5TD engine has also had plenty of issues, do a search in the Community Forum.
There are a few SFA Hilux's being offered for sale here, consider one of these if reliability and inexpensive maintenance is a consideration. Look at the one Luke Strugnell is offering, might be others but I have just read his 'for sale' post. Not as comfortable as your KZTE, but certainly more capable. My preference is to always avoid the ones with engine conversions though, stick to either the 2.2 4Y or the 2.4 22R petrol engines. Speak to BenHur about an EFI conversion.
If it helps to put your mind at ease, I have both the vehicles in my signature below and I look for any excuse to rather drive Bulldog, instead of White Fang. I simply enjoy it more! Not a racing car, but i do manage to save a lot on traffic fines

Re: to buy or not to buy?
Eric, I agree with you on being more capable!!! Sunday's trail in groenkloof was really just a "nice breakfast" run for my SFA!!!! I also agree on enjoying it more, than others, and decided against buying another car next year, just because I have a SFA EFI.........Family_BullDog wrote:If it helps to put your mind at ease, I have both the vehicles in my signature below and I look for any excuse to rather drive Bulldog, instead of White Fang. The colt 2.8 TD also had major turbo issues from about 80000km up from what I have heard.
Nissan Hardbody maybe?
Re: the Ford and Mazda 2.5TD I know of at least 4 people who have had constant issues with theirs from the Aircon unit to the injectors

Re: to buy or not to buy?
Gentlemen, I'm not a fan but I think stick with Toyota, excluding the new ones which has a lot of issues themselves. The Ford/Mazda 2.5TD is a good alternative because those engines new is as expensive as a re-done 4Y

Re: to buy or not to buy?
Maybe the V6 engine!! Just not the 2.7 td Engine or 3.2 D as they are real donkeys. The 3.0 TD 16V is not a bad option but htey tend to have a bit of turbo lag in the lower rpm that does hamper off road ability a lot. :?lyndonl wrote:Nissan Hardbody maybe?

Re: to buy or not to buy?
I helped a Community Forum member find a brand new 2.5TD engine here in Klerksburry at a far lower cost than he was able to get in Gautenland, even taking into consideration the fact they had to fetch his blown Fordjie on a low-bed trailer. Since then I followed the stories on the Comm-Forum, and quite a few guys suffered from the same issue, blown heads.

There might be others, but those probably provide enough insight.
The newer models will have obviously sorted that problem out though, can't remember what model he drove.
