Hummer H3

Post by Niel »

One of my colleague’s just bought the H3. Very nice looking vehicle. I am wondering why they would have these huge recovery shackles/point on the front and rear bumpers. I can only assume it is for the Toy's to recover them.

Funny how a H3 does nothing for me. I think it's UGLY!

I'm glad I don't like them, saves me money when I get "the itch"

Same here. No real desire to own one. If I get one for free I can always sell it and do a SFA and Lexus conversion on my Hilux.

I see this months SA4X4 features one on the front page. Saw a white one today and it looked like a jail cell or an armoured car.

Being in P.E. were the hummers are located before being shipped and during testing I have got to see lots of them including driving one belonging to Delta were a friend and one of my ex techs works now I must say it goes well and so on but it is butt ugly and not very good for serious off road as it is to big and I have heard of lots of breakages

Had a demo at our club 2 weeks ago, and I eventlually stripped my m@&r for the sales person. Told everybody that the H3 is the best 4x4 in the world. When I asked her on what she based it, "because it's a scaled down version of the Humvee". What utter crap. When some guys took it for a test drive and commented that it's swaying excessively, she said it's because of the stability control, and it's impossible to roll it. I eventually left before I started to get abusive.

The H3 actually has old technology (nearly as old as a SFA Hilux), leave springs in the back and torsion bars in front. Very soft body, small all round, but I guess it will appeal to the yuppie crowd.

Cheers,

Chris (Yeah, I know I may not slam other brands, but this is ridiculous)

Hi guys

I work on the H3, they not all that bad. My personal feel is that the wheels are far to small giving it a longer wheel base.
I think they are under power for the 5 cyl engine and a real gallon gusler, if you give it a bit of lift and 33" plus tyres and a monster V8 engine it should do the job just fine, think the drive train might take a hammering though. Heard that the front prop is not that strong to take the pounding that we give our TOYOTA'S. The body on the other hand is pretty strong saw an e-mail of one that was rolled, the guy said that if he was in his other car it would have been tickets for him, the H3 was a right off but stayed intact.

I still prefer my good old HILUX that has not left me standing on the side of the road like a few Land Rovers that I have seen.
