Replacement DVD/GPS Radio, which one?

Post by Mornes »

Hi guys, im in the market for a replacement radio for my Hilux (Vigo Shape). what i am typically looking for is Garmin's replacement unit that includes the DVD, GPS, handsfree, IPOD etc features. I have however seen many other similar options for a fraction of the price, but not sure if it is jap crap.

can anyone offer advice here?

i like the garmin unit to, but it will make a R11k dent in your pocket. some of the replcament units ive seen with the same features go for R3k.

The problem I have with a built in unit is that if the unit has a fault....in goes your van...like these new combo all in one hi-fi's.

Have you looked at the PC Tablet?

If I had to guess I would say those units will have Horizon Nav installed. Not to shabby but most definitely not Garmin. Morne do yourself a favour and have a look at the table PC Mark is referring to. Value for money and much more versatile than just a GPS. It is a full on PC (tablet). It has a built in GPS receiver and Garmin Mobile PC runs like a charm on the unit. m2cw

As far as I know, the stopshop unit is difficult to load T4A maps on. I got one recently, and will be giving it a test run as soon as I get round to installing it.

So, I did install the stopshop unit I have. I'm battling to get the maps working on it. Seems to be resetting itself, and not reading the SW.UNL file.
Wish I could read chinese :D

Have to say though, the support from Stop Shop has been pretty good.

Mobile accoustics..
