CHARGING TWO EXTRA BATTERIES OFF ALTERNATOR?

Post by Bester »

Ek check gereeld my alternator se bushes maar lyk heel ok, ek het dit so 2 jaar so.

Ek het 'n C-TEK XS7000, maar Eric se Bretton is baie goedkoper en doen die selle joppie.

Dit neem natuurlik baie lank om die twee te charge

Like Oooms says, it can be done.

Just always remember to have them as fully charged as possible from start, and where ever possible, try and top the charge up from mains.

If both auxillarys are flat, along with your vehicles battery needing charge, it could be too much strain for the alternator.

Here in Sleepy Hollow Cape Town, we have genius by the name of Henk that runs the http://www.sparxx.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; website, which is a part of tygerberg autoectrical, and he knows just about every part number by heart! I am sure he would be able to tell you what you can do to upgrade your alternator! I have the option on my KZ to fit either an 80A or a 120A? Just the cost differs! ;)

I have got to know Henk over a year or 2 now, they are not part of Tygerberg Auto-electrical, even though many ppl think so... I believe there is a family connection.

Mark, Kim has been threatening to sell me for years... but to date has not found a viable replacement, and trade-in on a well used 35 year model is not very good in the present economic climate! I'm only for sale as the BX1... I have to put on a few kilos(and years) to join you in the BX2(40+) class!

Henk knows his stuff and his prices are much more reasonable than the opposition!

yes it can be done!!! no doubt!!

self used to run 7 batteries from a second alternator (running 18volts, yes 18Volts) for the sound system and the only thing that ever had an issues was fan belts when batteries were allowed to run down!!

as for fully charging the batteries before hand yep that is a good idea, have ripped fan belts apart due to trying to charge two flat batteries from the alternator!!

I, run 3 (cranking and 2 deep cycle, but in the load box) to date no problems. As stated, charge them before leaving home. The battery in the trailer might be a problem as the "trailer wires" are very thin. Some chaps take a thicker cable and run it to the trailer. Never tested that myself. The Benton 2 also work lekker as Mark said.
