Looks like they will produce a mean light! Also looks like at least you can replace individual diodes if they blow, that's a definite plus as well.

Re: Flaming Hot Spots

Hi All

So the Boss and I went to go test the 55W LED Spots. I'm sure Pieter will post his own opinion about our findings
but from my side this is what I can say. I like it, I like it allot, the only question I have is, is it spots or is it flood light.
I was expecting spot beams with long range but instead these lights flooded the close range 60m radius in front of the vehicle with a very bright white light.
Here are some images taken with my 12MP N8 cell, Pieter used a decent camera and will load his images later.

First image, my lux with only the dim's switched on.
Image

Second image, with only the 55W LED spots switched on.
Image

Third image with only brights and Hella spots in bumper.
Image

Forth image with brights and Hella's and 55W LED spots switched on.
Image

Fifth image front view of all lights switched on.
Image

So in our opinion these 55W LED spots acts like floods with a range of about 60m, very good for night trials or unknown
dangerous areas where you need that extra side illumination and high bright light on your immediate surroundings.

Your thoughts????

Those lights are fantastic! Now I gotta get some! :)

I prefer "driving Lights" as opposed to Spots, one gets much better peripheral side vision which, to me, is of more value than far-reaching spots. I hit a pitch black horse many years ago on the Potch road (double highway) when it darted in front of me from the side, 11PM at night. Not a pleasant experience.

Ja, it was a bit disappointing.
I expected a more focussed beam
I will ask the factory if the can build with more focused lenses for me.

As Johannes said, if you are doing a night trail these lights would be absolutely brilliant, but they will not work as "spot" lights on a vehicle

Here is pictures of the 3 watt LEDs I ordered loose.
I suspect this spot has the same in it.
Me thinks if we change the 9 in the middle with 8 degree and leave the 8 on the outside with whatever angle they are you will have a pretty effective light

You will see each LED has its own lens

Ek glo met 8 of 15 grade lense gaan hy werk.

Andy stop confusing the old boys!

Pieter, must agree with WitMamba, the cost of similar branded LED spots/floods is multiple times more expensive, so even 3K per set would be a giveaway!

Johannes, the spots look really cool on your bakkie, when I've finished the million & one outstanding things on my bakkie, I'll definitely look at a set of these 'flood' lights, I really like the increased peripheral vision!

We were busy for about ten minutes comparing and taking pictures.
When you touch the glass it is still ice cold.

Another thing which is funny, we left the vehicles idling. Those spots are 55watt each BUT when we switched them on it did not influence the idling speed of the engine but when we switched the head lights on, even on dim, the engine immediately idled slower.

OK, just before I left we investigated the possibility to change some of the lenses in the spots but it wont work.

I am negotiating with the supplier to now develop some with 15 degree beam angles for me.

Since I will not be using this set I will sell them at cost price which is R2,000 for the set of 2
Anybody interested please let me know

Okay manne, the conditions aren't great for testing so I just took a friend to show the performance.

All I did was I stuck a pipe with some reflector tape on it in a dune and went back 1km measured with my Hilux.

Took some picks of the front view with the spots switched on and a pick of the clearly visible reflector 1km ahead of us.
Unfortunately I don't have a decent camera so I used my Nokia N8 12MP camera.
The results are amazing but as always the picks don't do it much justice.
Enjoy.

10 meters in front of the vehicle......

50 meters in front of the vehicle.......

100 meters in front of the vehicle

Reflector from 1km, a better camera would have been able to show the reflector much clearer...

Pieter and myself will do more tests when the weather has cleared.

Thys ek like jou "trein" comment, noggal waar, :laugh2:

Twee langs mekaar sal steeds baie mooi lyk.

Ek dink ek is nou klaar met spotlight koop, volgende projek sal die AluCab wees.
