Hi all and FD?
Please advise on the procedure for renewal of existing licences for this year. I could not find a sticky or recent posting regarding this on this section of the forum.

Re: 2013 VHF Licence renewals with ORRA?
ICASA has yet to send us (and ORRA) invoices for the new licences. I guess once this is done, ORRA will do the necessary.

Re: 2013 VHF Licence renewals with ORRA?
Thanks guys. I heard about the 'bollie' regarding a single licence for a single user via ICASA which may become required, which is very worrying....

Re: 2013 VHF Licence renewals with ORRA?
No, it's not a train smash. If ICASA takes away ORRA's distribution rights, then it is a matter of applying for a VHF licence in your own name. The only downside then is you're legally limited to only 50km radius of your home base, but that is going to be one very tough law for ICASA to enforce. There is hope that ICASA will review the situation, however.

Re: 2013 VHF Licence renewals with ORRA?
Kobus, iCASA sends their invoices out in batches. We (Repcom) received some of ours last week so I imagine that ORRA should also receive theirs about now. Having said that, we have only received about half of ours, we are still waiting for about 15 invoices to arrive. Due to the completely revised licence fees that ICASA charges which are now area-dependent and no longer based on quantity of radios, I guess ORRA does not yet know how much to charge for licences. Doubt it will really be much different from what it currently is, though.

ORRA will simply email you when they do receive the ICASA accounts and it will be mentioned here and quite probably in the Community Forum as well.

Re: 2013 VHF Licence renewals with ORRA?
ICASA no longer charges per radio on a licence, but for the licence itself, irrespective of whether you have one or a hundred radios on the licence.
Hopefully ORRA will now drop the most annoying request for serial numbers of radios, as the need falls away.
