Hilux Radio

Post by Cinco »

:wth: From reading up the forum it would seem that the only way to be able to play an ipod and usb equipment on my Hilux (2011) would be to replace the whole old fashioned standard radio? How could Toyota not incorporate these ports in the first place? Any old radio has had these ports for many years!

Is it not possible to have a usb port and an "aux" port wired into the standard radio?
If not what is a decent replacement radio head and who is recommended to do the fitment as it seems it is not a DIY job? I live in Joburg.

Thank you
Wishing my life away till the next trip!

Thanks Gents
I don't necessarily want the navigation (I have a Garmin) but it looks like one has no option?
I just want a radio that has the ability to play music through both an aux port and a USB port.

This is what I use, not the greatest, but gets the job done! (R100!)

Digital music changer by 4x4direct.

Okay so the simplest solution I have found is 1) a Shox boombox has two speakers, and takes a usb stick/flash drive.... 2) and a plug that fits into the lighter plug that takes a usb input plug or whatever you call it.... plug the usb charger thingie into the lighter socket, take the usb plug that is connected by a cable into the Shox stereo box and plug it into the charger. The shox stereo boombox can be also be connected to a computer to play that music and the battery be charged, or when the battery is charged stand alone, it has fm radio and has a slot for a flash drive but only plays MP3 via the flash drive ouput... total cost R350 for Shox boombox and R230 for the electrical plug and car charger plug for usb.... Sound is good enough for me, don't have the problem of cd's jumping while driving on bumpy roads and can load as much music on my flashdrive as it can take......

http://shop.television4me.com.au/26-shox-boom-box.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

SHOX BOOM BOX
Take your music to the street with the revolutionary new boom box from shoX. This mini speaker with killer sound comes with a built-in Micro SD card reader and slick touch controls and is taking portable music to the next level.
Twice the boom
Busting out a base line way above its size this duo wonder speaker is an audio force to be reckoned with. Busting out a huge 6 watts of power with perfect pitch and deafening clarity shoX boom box is going to get every leg bouncing.
Break it down

shoX boom box opens up a whole host of new ways to break it down. The auxiliary jack will get you connected to cellphones and computers, there is a micro SD card reader for listening to your stored tunes and boom box also has an included FM radio and USB card reader.
SPECIFICATIONS
Huge 6 watt speaker output
Micro SD, USB card reader & radio
User-friendly touch controls
4 hours non-stop playback
Size :15 cm x 8cm
Weight: 150g

Less expensive than replacing the CD player in my car or Hilux...

Am just loving the photo of that leopard.... one of my favourite animals....

I have installed a unit in my Hilux 05. I will check the make and the name of the place when I am back at home. It was very expensive. I person installed it in 10min. It is a simple plug and play unit on the back of the radio. The I-pod is in the cabby and controlled from the radio buttons.

Shox box looks interesting. You would still have this loose appendage possibly bouncing around.

I cant lay claim to the leopard photo although I wish it was mine.

I installed the YT-M06 on my radio and it works! It simply plugs into the back of the standard radio. Very simple installation. I had myself all prepped for a big job, with rewiring and stuff, but thankfully not necessary. :celebrate:

I had a bit of trouble getting the USB flash drive and SD card to work but my clever son (techno savvy) solved that problem.
I can now play ipod, USB drive, SD card and smart phones through my radio.
Awesome!!

Am also going to get one - seems 4x4 direct sells them

What do you need to take the radio out (what tools) or how do you do it?

Can you not pull out the cubbyhole and reach the rear of the radio that way?

Have not tried either - just asking :?:

Its very easy, its bolted with 4 x 10mm bolts.

First you remove the airvent control buttons, then the facia plate and then the bolts are exposed.

Will take you about 10min.

So i installed mine today after i got it from 4x4 direct direct.

Was a breeze - removed the knobs, undid a little screw in the middle, unclipped the facia and undid the 4x 10mm botls securing the radio. Put the changer in the cubby, worked the wire to the back of the unit and simply plugged it in.

I previously set up my USB music folders with the required naming convenion "CD01, CD02, etc. Switched on the unit, pressed CD and it displayed "Load" on the unit. Started playing the first song in a few seconds - great sound.

Then i realised that my 2005 hilux radio only has CD track forward and reverse and no file skip function. Started fiddling around and discovered i could forward to different files by pressing the radio channel button (3) repeatedly - it also shows the CD file numbers as you flip through so all good.

Also love the memory function - it was the lack thereof (and the poor sound quality) that made my previous cigarette remote SD unit not a good choice in my opinion.

Have not yet tested any aux inputs yet.

Very happy thus far

Have a look at the Caska range for the Toyotas. I had one installed and it's great. Here's a link http://www.planetworld.co.za" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
The service I got from the offices in Pretoria as well as Cape Town was brilliant. The back up support I must say is awesome.
