Hi there,
Do you get amateur radios that you can fit into your car - similar to the 29Mhz models?
Are there any advantages with the amateur ones over the normal AM and FM ones (range, etc.)
I presume that as the FM ones are not widely used, the amateur ones will be even more scarce, due to the licensing, exams etc.

As Gert says, you've gotta do some learning again in order to use one of these products. Take note though, that the conventional Amateur VHF rigs do not cover the Commercial ORRA frequencies in standard form. Radio Hams have ways of dealing with this, however...

This I might be a bit late with the reply but you do get a amateur radio that fits in your car. There are two types VHF and HF. The advantage of these is that you have a longer range and you use repeaters on the VHF making it easy to talk to other amateurs on your way. There are two exams a class A and a class B the class B is a bit easier. Go to www.sarl.org.za.
