Tyre Dog Pressure Monitoring System
Tyre Dog Pressure Monitoring System
I've gotta say that I'm very very impressed with this product after seeing one in a mate's Randy Lover
I've been offered one at a very nice Club Discount - just not nice timing financially at the mo' but saying that it's cheaper than a new tyre which it can definitely save you should you have a problem.
See the following appraisal:
Fit the little transmitters to the valves on your tyres and monitor the tyre pressure and temperature in the cab on a LCD monitor. Alarms warn you when the pressure and temperature change.
Spares available
Batteries can be changed easily
Available for 2 Wheels - Motorbikes
4 Wheels normal cars and 4x4's
6 Wheels vehicle and trailer
Up to 24 wheels - truck
---------------------
"I have saved three tyres using a Tyre Dog.
Driving in Lesotho the alarm sounded and I found a nail in the tyre. With the bad condition of the roads I would never had known I had a puncture until it was too late.
In the Richtersveld while doing a film shoot with Andrew White the alarm sounded and I managed to stop and repair before destroying the tyre.
All in all I have saved three tyres @ R1800 each and thus have paid the Tyre Dog off almost three times."
Greg van der Reis, Offroad Fundi
---------------------------------
Monitor tyre pressures and temperate from inside the cab.
"I reckon, eight out of ten mechanical problems when overland has something to do with tyres. Whatever problem one has with tyres, it will have something to do with pressure or temperature. Surely if a driver can monitor these, any upcoming problem will be made known, because almost always, there will be warning signs well before the problem actually strikes. One of the very best tyre monitoring devices is the Tyre Dog. A simple panel receives signals from transmitters attached to each valve. Every few seconds it reads pressure and temperature and audibly warns of trouble ahead. I know for a fact that had I had one of these fitted, my Kalahari trip last year would not have been aborted.
For a little more than the price of a single 4x4 tyre, this unit can, and probably will, pay for itself within a year.
Tyredog contributes to safety by almost eliminating blowout hazards. It often warns of an eminent blowout, because high-speed under-inflated tyres cause most blowouts, which results in over-temperature. Tyredog detects both these situations, allowing the operator to slow down, stop and discover the problem before it becomes one.
Price includes four sensor/transmitters and the panel. Sensors are battery powered; the panel is either battery or 12v powered. You will have it fitted and working in about two minutes.
Well tested and robust - I really like this piece of kit."

Hmmm ... sounds interesting! Does it give a read-out of individual tyre pressures and temp? Gimmick or worthwhile equipment?

Re: Tyre Dog Pressure Monitoring System
Go for it, I say, even my BMW's got a Tyre Pressure Monitoring system in it.
Only drawback is that you wont be able to leave your vehicle parked anywhere for an extended period of time (longer than 20 minutes) with the little caps on. They'll get nicked, and then your Tyre Dog is just a Dog, because the major expense is not really the little readout-device, it is the little caps on the valve-stems.

Oh forgot to mention - those little valve transmitter dingers
They are Lockable
You need a special key to remove them
(order 3 extra keys there then)
Cost is around R2000 depends from who and where you get it, the 4x4Comms Shop is selling for R2,6K I think.

Re: Tyre Dog Pressure Monitoring System
Def sounds worth it if you have a spare R2k lying around. What's nice is that it seems quite portable, and you could probably use it on which ever vehicle you're using at the time.
Re: Tyre Dog Pressure Monitoring System
Defo not a gimmik Andy, gives pressure readout or temp readout with a User settable alarm ie. you set the target pressure 0-4 bar then Alarms sound if sudden deviation or tyre temp rises exponentially. :Geek:Mud Dog wrote:Hmmm ... sounds interesting! Both testimonials come from fellow Club Members, I've seen the unit in action; it's very small, portable and easy to read.
Suppose the question is;
Buy one now or risk losing an otherwise recoverable tyre, or worse lose control of your vehicle
There are other Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systems on the market, this one is the smartest I've seen (so far)

Re: Tyre Dog Pressure Monitoring System
To prevent the tyre dogs from being stolen, take your wheels to a tyre shop, and have them drill new holes and fit valves, on the inside of your wheels, where they would be hidden from long fingers. This way, it will also not be necessary to unlock the dogs each time you want to inflate or deflate your tyres, as you still have the regular valves for this.

Might just do that
Re: Tyre Dog Pressure Monitoring System
Rich, how do the transmitters transmit to the unit? Via blue tooth or something

Something like that, updates every Second, transmitters and receivers are dedicated so you don't pick up another vehicles signal enol :Geek:

I have fitted a few of these before, we drilled another hole in the rim at the back out of harm's way.

They are manufactured in Australia. I've sent my relatives in Oz a mail and see if they can't maybe organise us a deal there locally.Dadz Toy BFI wrote:CasKru wrote:found this brochure
