I've seen a left hand drive 4 Runner with a 2" or 3" lift and it looks excellent. The only problem is you'll have to modify / move your front axle to accommodate the bigger wheels. m2cw

Hey Cassie, Ek sien jy's sommer ook vroeg uit die bed .... het jou vrou jou uitgeskop, of het jy stilletjies uit gesluip forum toe? :D:

Stuart, I'd get them and try them, you can always revert if it's not suitable. Personally I'm not a fan of extended shackles, particularly long extensions as it increases the tendancy for sideway flex. The longer the shackles, the more sideway leverage they have. I'd be more inclined to fit spacer blocks for the spring mounts (more stable).

A set of spanners/sockets, tressels (jack stands), jack and grease I reckon is all you need.

Pretty much, hey, easy as that. Don't let it fall on you though!!

No need to take wheels off.. I just jack it up by the tow bar till it stands with no weight on the shackles and remove the old, jack up some more till you get the spacing right for the new ones to fit in. Make sure you chock the front end so that the back can't swivel out to the side if you have it jacked in the middle. or do one wheel at a time, but you may find that with the slight flex that starts happening, the end of the leaf spring starts to swivel slightly and makes it difficult to get the new shackle in. Remember the Red Rubber Grease  and the pictures

Should'nt have to, but your extension travel will be reduced. This is limited by the shocks, what do you have, OME Nitro-Chargers? By fitting longer shackles you will be dropping the static load position on the shocks to further extention than before, leaving less travel for articulation. You could try space the shocks as well by the same distance so you loose nothing. Maybe at the top would be easier.
Just make sure that once you're done, that you jack the wheels off the ground and check that your brake pipes are not taut, should be a little slack.

yeah nitro chargers allround,
once its done ill take it for a lil 4x4ing just 2 see what its like and depending on that i might get new shocks all round that are longer, probably rancho or tuffdog, the brakes lines still have a fair bit of slack in them but ill definately look in 2 longer ones
or i hang on for a bit and do it all at once?

Doing it all at the same time and consolidating the work is usually the best approach.
Good luck.

hello guys!

I know this is an old post, but I am trying to do find out as much as I can

I want to install longer shackles on my LN105, 8cm longer front and back

I would get a 4cm lift, right?

I am thinking of longer shocks too, so it can articulate better

Would I need to modify anything else? ( the steering for example)

Do I also have to adjust the rear break distributor, since the car is going to get higher?

Thank you

I am talking completely under correction but I dont think you would need to adjust the brake distributor or the steering as you are not doing a body lift.

Yes, correct, it will give you 4cm lift. You should adjust the LSPV ..... you are changing the extension distance of the suspension. 4cm is not a big difference, and won't affect the adjustment too much, but it is better to compensate.

The steering should still be fine, and so should the front prop-shaft. However, if you have already done a suspension lift by changing the springs, the overall lift would be compounded and you would probably have to lengthen the prop-shaft, drag-link and brake lines. You would also have to lengthen the torque rod on the front axle if your vehicle is fitted with one. If your overall lift from standard ride height is 100mm or less, none of the above should be necessary, but check the brake lines under full extension to ensure that they are still long enough.

;-)

I have not changed anything else for know. Factory suspension and I won't do much, cause of the cost.

Is there any post to help me adjust the brake distributor?

Thanks!

Hi Guys.
Just be careful if you already have springs that have been designed and raised the vehicle by 50mm by adding extended shackles if they 50mm longer it will raise an extra 25mm.You must then make sure you space up your distance from bump stop to chassis by 25mm so the leaf springs don't go past their stress points.
If they do as you increased the height the springs will sag.
Remember a leaf spring can only deflect so much as its designed to per spec.

Darrell
