PraDog has a Spirex battery, part "LM60-649R". On the side of the battery, there is another sticker "60R" and on top of the battery yet another sticker with "Replaces 649". have had this battery since I bought PraDog 4 years ago and it is still going strong.

Old thread, but I found it again this morning when I wanted to order a new battery fro Pradog as the old Spirex battery had eventually given up the ghost after the 6 years that I owned it. Not sure how old it was before that but I suspect it was installed in 2008 judging by the numbers stamped on the side of the battery. I always assumed Spirex to be an Autozone "Cheapie", but I eat my hat - eight years is excellent service. It finally suffered a dead cell and would not start the Prado.

So I tried starting it with this:

We sold these some time ago and we know the lithium-poly battery was capable of starting a 1300 Golf engine but never tried it with anything larger than this. This morning it started the V6 Prado engine, absolutely effortlessly! From a 'cluck-cluck' that the Spirex produced to a full whirring sound for at least 2-3 seconds while the Prado fuel pump was priming itself until the engine fired, using the red & black clamps supplied with the unit as pictured above.

Here is a pic of the battery:

I thought I was dreaming! I showed the power pack to the guys at Champion as they were fitting the new battery and they were just as intrigued as I was, the amount of power in that tiny package is just unbelievable.

Back to the original topic - the new battery is a Raylite 638 which fits perfectly, somewhat larger than the Spirex that we removed. Interestingly, the Spirex battery was tagged "Made in Brazil", I believe it was excellent value after all these years.

Yip, those are great. Started a V8 Jeep with it once. No problem.

Most definitely, Pieter! I never really pushed these because I had never tested it my self. My business partner now tells me he has started his diesel Unimog with one of these as well! Talk about abuse... :o:
