What is the main difference between a GX and VX

The G and the V...the X's are the same

George, you have asked about this before...

VX has leather seats, climate control throughout, diff lock and so on...
GX has cloth seats, but I don't think it has climate control in the rear and no diff locks

There were aslo some small cosmetic changes in terms of exterior changes like fog lights etc.

Mechanically, the same obviously.

I have the VX

...and a friend of mine has the GX...

Gx models had black mirrors and door handles. Cloth seats and only 5 seats with n luggage cover. No heated or electrical seats. Mirrors also didnt have the heated function iirc.

Vx models was 8 seats. Leather interior. Heated front seats and electrical adjust seats. Mirrors heated and retract. Both models had aircon. Vx models with the 2000 model facelift had a rear aircon unit also. Alos mirrors and handles have crome trim. Vx also iirc had illuminated vanity mirrors in both sunvisors.

Difflock was fitted from late 1998 models in both gx and vx models. Only swb models didnt get the difflock fitted. Mine is a 2000 VX model.

George does the fact of seeing one in action at Kungwini planted the idea???? Suv is a nice touring vehicle if you set it up correctly. Mine will soon have its first long trip away.

Shoe, I did not realise a 90 VX has so many gadgets.
Now I know why Johan has such a big smile each time he talks about his Prado.

Pieter, Yes I do enjoy my Prado a lot...... It has a lot of convenience and comfort features and things that makes travelling so comfortable. I am in 2 months the owner for 1 year of my Prado!!!! Looking back, I will buy it again. I did 8000 km this year with it.
Driving 800km a day in it is the same as driving +/- 300 km in my SFA after doing the extensive sound deading with the rewire..

The outing to Kungwini and Rhino even my mom came back and said that she was not tired after the day and that is from sitting in the rear seats all day.

The Prado is not overly powerfull or very fast, compared to newer models, but then again this is my holiday vehicle. When driving it, I enjoy the road and everything around me.... Driving the Volvo daily you get used to being able to overtake really quick without even thinking to much or feeling uneasy with oncoming traffic on the single lane road to work. Almost like point and shoot style. So if I am in a hurry anywhere, I take my 200BHP sleeper....

The Prado does what it does without complain or feeling strained. capable of cruising at 140 all day long. I tend to stay at 125 all day or sometimes even 110. At this speeds you don't even hear the V6 motor. All is quiet and comfortable. Just after buying mine I head for Kleinzee via Springbok, and I had to overtake 2x interlinks that was following each other with a gap inbetween them. I put my foot down and kept it down... i passed the lock up speed and it was still going as I pulled in front of the 2nd interlink. Was quite surprised to see the needle going there...

The times I have been off road, it is a complete change of mind and way of driving with the Auto box and also IFS with rear diff lock. Torque is a lot more and it just pulls up any slope in a controlled manner. It also feels a lot more stable and the angles feel more in control. Sand is one of the places this will shine, with lots of power and a good torque spread, the auto box in Low 2nd gear should see it climb most dunes easy. Lot of travel on the rear axle which makes most terrain not needing to use the locker but it is there to use should you have to.

Something that not a lot of people would know is that if you leave a door of the tailgate open for more than 10 minutes without closing it or switching the ignition on, the dome light switches off until either the key gets turned on or all the doors are closed and one is reopened. Perfect for camping when the tailgate stays open most of the time for long periods.

Also the rear windows do pop open to allow a breeze to circulate without to much sun coming in.

George 40km/h above national speedlimit on the highway. So I pushed it to over 160 passing the interlinks, yet it was still stable and pulling.
