 Something about that technique just seems fishy. I'll tell you when I can place my finger on it.

This is a good demonstration on how quickly things can go wrong. He did not make a huge mistake but the consequences.... know what you are doing all the time and if unsure... ask for assistance

He was sick and tired of driving a mitzi and was jealous of his mate in the hilux who just drove easily over the obsticle and was filming him getting stuck for the 23rd time that day and this was a great way to claim from insurance and get a 'Lux.

This happened RIGHT in front of me ! But let's first rewind a bit.

4x4 training for Suzuki owners in Jo-ies. Full theory session in the morning, then the basics or reverse stall start and steep decents etc all practiced and then practiced some more ... NOBODY gets allowed to carry on untill they master the basics.

Later we get to do the trail.

A lady goes up this little hill and stalls. No problem, just do the reverse stall start. She goes through ALL the motions while the instructor watches .... somehow she manages to end up in neutral !! As she lets go of the brakes she never regained control untill she stopped against a pole to the tight of the trail !

So now the instructors are ever more vigilant. A Few minutes later we get around to the same part of the trail. The lady in front of me (yes another lady) also stalls .... now the instructor leans into the car and makes 100% sure every thing is perfect. Reverse stall start and everything start off well .... then the car goes slightly off course and she "corrects", to the WRONG SIDE ! BAM, into the tree !! She never even touched the brakes. IF she missed the tree she would have wiped out the Jimny I was in - A LONE CAR FOR DAY !

Just before the roll the wheels are locked .... means she de-clutched and braked  . The LHS rear wheel went over into the RHS track rut .... should have corrected earlier.
When your road comes to an end ...... you need a HILUX!.

That clip is a HUGE eye opener. Just one simple mistake, and the chain effect thereafter.
Really happens so quick.

VERY TRUE !

You need to KNOW what you want to "achieve" AND what to do to achieve this goal .... one "small wrong counter turn" and you are very lucky if you get to recover from it.

And unfortunately the camera is not telling the complete story. That slope is much steeper than what it appears
