On the 24th Dec I decided to go to Auto pedigree in Brackenfell to buy my wife a car.
She is busy getting her own polygraph business up and running and I thought it might help
if she has a new vehicle to see potential clients.

She decided on a 2012 Chev Aveo 1.6LS, blue in color, with 42000km.
After the paperwork was done and finance was approved I signed for the vehicle on 30 Des.

They said I can view the car on the 2nd Jan, as it was in storage and the store was closed.
They then said that the car would take a little longer to get as there was a scratch on the fuel tank
that they saw during inspection, and they wanted to replace the tank.

On the 7th I finally saw the car for the first time. It was the wrong color, a baby powder blue,
where we stated we wanted the dark, royal blue. The car wreaked of fuel on the inside, the new
tank was incorrectly fitted and leaked fuel to the inside of the vehicle. While I was there I looked
underneath the car and it looked like it sustained chasis damage to the rear due to an impact, like
it went at high speed over a pavement. Even the silencer box was dented 7cm inwards.

I told them that it was unacceptable to even try and give that car, even with the wrong color,
due to the apparent damage to the rear of the vehicle.

Now I have to wait till Wednesday the 15th before I can take delivery of my gunmetal gray 2012 Chev
Aveo 1.6LS with 49000km on. :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated: :frustrated:

cancel the deal, all their cars were rentals and was driven by every Tom Dick and Harry. Those cars, all of them have dents and scratches they patch up and years later it shows on the car where the repairs were done. I had similar experience years ago.
My sister had a corsa she bought from them and had numerous bearing problems, and all other sort of issues. The car was in a accident and after a year and numerous battles with auto pedigree she got rid of the car.

The problem is they are huge and you must know your stuff if you want to take them on.

If you have to buy from them, insist on an AA test. That will point out any issues with the car. Pay for test if they don't want too, at least then you have peace of mind that the car was in no accident.

An AA or Dekra report is not worth the paper it is written on!

Rather get a trusted mechanic to put the car on a lift and inspect it properly. Maybe a panelbeater will even be better?

I fully agree their cars are not worth while to buy.........when they order their cars it is normally the intro level with only the basic extras, sometimes not even a cigarette lighter, cheap carpets and seat covers etc etc. And as someone said earlier the cars had numerous drivers mishandle the car most of the time.

Unfortunately this is the only way I can get a "new" car with a warranty till 2017 without a deposit.
I have no credit record to go on for a loan at the bank.

The car has electric windows(at the front), aircon, electric adjustable mirrors and a remote key!
It is a 1.6 DOHC
This is very nice for us and "luxurious" and very powerful, compared to the base model 1.3 OHC
1999 opel corsa hatch we have.

At R117000, it is more than twice what I payed for my lux.

My wife is now on her own starting a polygraph business, and she cannot go to potential clients
in a old, rusted corsa. It will portray the wrong image.

okay, every debate needs the "other side" to balance the story ...... (not sure who said this is a debate though..)

in all seriousness - couple of years back I bought an AVIS rental car - 1,3 Toyota Conquest. (the old 4 speed one)

YES, many of their cars had marks and dents. BUT, they work on a business model where the vehicle is only kept for a SHORT period, and limited kilos. MANY of their vehicles are still in GOOD nick, but served its time or kilos.

That little AVIS car gave us EXCELLENT service !!!

PS - MOST one year olds are ex rental company cars ....., irrespective of where you buy it .....

Get a car, take it for a test drive - STRAIGHT to HOPPY !! in 2 minutes he is going to tell you more than any AA report .....
